Elgama Posted November 2, 2008 Report Posted November 2, 2008 (edited) we have started sticking with one verse until we know we understand it and my daughter has memorised it yet, then we move onto the next one. We try every night to sing a hymn, say a prayer, tell a scripture story, then we work on the Book of Mormon, say a prayer and sing another hymn (sounds a lot I know but takes about 15 minutes). It has taken us 6 months to get through 1 Nephi 1 lol but my daughter (5) has had chance to ask about every word and can now recite it - we are very excited to be starting on 1 Nephi 2 lol basically we read all the verses she had memorised and then the one we were working on about 3 times until we knew it. My son (2) loves the hymns and takes his turn to conduct (my husband introduced a feather duster) and sits there with his blue Book of Mormon. We are also encouraging Ellie to mark her scriptures and we sometimes read verses from the footnotes when we don't understand things, although she is only 5 she has a complete standard works (more than my hubby and me lol as his landed in a mop bucket and mine is missing parts of Alma) hopefully we can do scriptures at Christmas -Charley Edited November 2, 2008 by Elgama Quote

hiddentreasures Posted November 3, 2008 Report Posted November 3, 2008 With an 8 yr old you can do lots of fun things. One of our favorites of late is to play who am I? You think of a person in the scriptures, everyone else asks yes or no questions to figure out who it is. Start with easy ones. Then the kids really enjoy trying to trick you so they think up harder and harder ones. We have lots of fun with it. One other idea. When reading each day I ask for a summary of what happened the day before. Then after we read ask for a summary of that days reading. Then I try to add a verse or something that was important to me in that reading. Quote
