HoosierGuy Posted December 26, 2008 Report Posted December 26, 2008 Luke 2:25-33 25 And, behold, there was a man in Jerusalem, whose name was Simeon; and the same man was just and devout, waiting for the consolation of Israel: and the Holy Ghost was upon him. 26 And it was revealed unto him by the Holy Ghost, that he should not see death, before he had seen the Lord’s Christ. 27 And he came by the Spirit into the temple: and when the parents brought in the child Jesus, to do for him after the custom of the law, 28 Then took he him up in his arms, and blessed God, and said, 29 Lord, now lettest thou thy servant depart in peace, according to thy word: 30 For mine eyes have seen thy salvation, 31 Which thou hast prepared before the face of all people; 32 A light to lighten the Gentiles, and the glory of thy people Israel. 33 And Joseph and his mother marvelled at those things which were spoken of him. I was browsing the scriptures on lds.org tonight and came upon the above the really struck me. Particularly versus 29 to 32. Jesus is giving peace even as a baby. And Simeon was told by the Holy Ghost that he would not die until his eyes were allowed to see the Savior of the World - a new born baby at that time. Imagine the peace the young Savior brought this man. Peace that made him ready to depart the earth and move across the veil. Winter is such a harsh time. Animals hibernate. People stay inside from the cold. Flowers and plants die off. Winter can be fun and beautiful and pretty, but also sad and depressing as spring and summer feel far away. But I know there is a warm light in this cold winter and that light is Jesus Christ. That light warms my cold heart a little as I know it warmed the heart of Simeon. And no matter the time in history - when Simeon held the Baby King, decades after, centuries after, now, and centuries in the future, Jesus can and will warm our hearts and give us peace if only we will open up our spirits to Him. What a present Simeon received when he was allowed to hold Jesus. I know we are not suppose to be jealous, but I am very jealous of this man called Simeon. What a present and blessing he received.
