jiminycricket Posted February 3, 2009 Report Posted February 3, 2009 skooled, if you're still around, you've been given some great advice here. I have only one additional suggestion: Get yourself a copy of Truman G. Madsen's "Joseph Smith the Prophet" talk-on-CD set, and maybe his "The Life and Teachings of the Prophet Joseph" set. I was a teenager when I realized that I only thought Joseph Smith was a prophet. I trusted he was, and I knew the church was true, but that wasn't enough - I wanted an especial testimony independent of all else of the prophetic calling of Joseph Smith. I prayed about it, read the usual stuff (JS-H, some D&C sections, etc), but I still never received a confirmation strong enough that I felt I could depend on it. Finally, on a youth temple trip the driver popped in a copy of Brother Madsen's talks. I was riveted. I confess that I may have been a little disappointed when we got to the temple, but that illustrates how powerfully those tapes struck me. I was very disappointed when we got home. So the brother let me borrow his copy until I could get my own.My testimony is not dependent on those talks or any individual story in them, but I received a sure testimony of Brother Joseph's calling, through the Spirit, by their instrumentality. Most highly recommended.Jiminy Quote
