Winnie G Posted January 5, 2005 Report Posted January 5, 2005 I was talking to a co-worker today who had the joy of having her husband for leave on Christmas. She told me that what really made her skin crawl was how they are not allowed to kill the rates that run all over the camp in Kandahar. (sp) They are not allowed to poison them and none can send food of any kind, hard candy is allowed but after that forget it. The rats have free run of the camp and go in to tents and crawl in to every thing so they have to stash every thing in to their barrack boxes. I looked at her and said what? Why can’t they kill them? “Their part of the food chain” I told her to send him back with powdered cement and a bag of oatmeal. You can mix the two and put down a bowl of water. They eat it and walk away and there not poisoned. Quote
Guest lt Posted January 5, 2005 Report Posted January 5, 2005 Winnie, AMEN......................When my hubby was gone for a year to Bosnia when that garbage started....we sent what ever we wanted but it never lasted long, the rats ate it... if it couldnt fit in the box, they would pass it around until it was gone and everyone had some so it wouldnt go to waiste. My favorite is when my hubby said the rats made a nest out of the toilet paper and top raimen, he was so......upset. I truly think military life could improve just a bit, ya think !!!!!!!!!!!!! Laureltree Ps.......missed ya winnie, email me when you come to town again Quote

"They're part of the food chain."Right -- they're prey for all those wolves, eagles, tigers etc. that are just walking all over the Kandahar camp.Did this lunkhead ever figure out that if the rats are overrunning the camp, they live in the camp -- and there's nothing higher than them on the food chain to eat them? Oh My The lunkhead is the person who claimed rats are part of the "food chain." That is, if that's the reason somebody gave an order to save the rats for that reason, he/she is a grade-A bona fide certified lunkhead. In nature, rats are part of the natural "food chain" -- they're eaten by predators. In a military encampment, where there probably are no predators (no lions, tigers, bears, oh my, etc.), there's no true "food chain" going. Rats just get into the supplies, eat them, and multiply in a manner totally disconnected from the natural ecosystem. Quote
