my son (almost 1) wakes up every couple of hours in the night.  Concerning which, if anyone has any suggestions for dealing with said problem (short of punting the little stinker into the backyard), I'd be very grateful.

All but one of my five children woke up often at night when they were little. My favorite was when I let my youngest cry for a little while, and then she quieted down. I heard her babbling a while later, so I sneaked in to check on her. She had had a "poo poo diapy", and decided to decorate the crib and wall with it when I didn't jump up and change her. This was an intricately carved wooden crib with lots of little nooks and crannies. It was the longest night of my life!

(sorry I can't give better advice--I just think you are a heck of a nice guy to get up in the middle of the night with him--my husband never did!)

PD--from one who has been there, who was it that said, "This too will pass, my son". Just enjoy the fact that you have him and he is still close to you--it is amazing how fast that time passes and they are gone raising their own families.

Yeah, I know. I'm already missing some of the earlier stages of my daughter's life, even though she's even more charming at almost 3, and each stage brings new joy. I just get the sneaking suspicion that my wife and I may be doing something to give the little guy the wrong impression about what he can get by crying in the night. My wife's a big softy, and enjoys her sleep as much as I do, so when he wakes up at 2 in the morning, there's the temptation just to take him into bed and fall back asleep with him instead of trying to get him back into his crib. Just letting him yell himself back to sleep isn't an option, since the kids sleep in the same room.

Last night on the TV show Super nanny they showed a child with a "staying in bed" problem. They put him to bed and then sat on the floor a few feet from the bed. It was important for them to avoid eye contact with the child. Each night they did this while moving closer to the door. It worked in the end and the parents were able to get their sleep.

Yeah, I caught parts of that show. Only part. Tommy was keeping me up, so I missed the part about getting kids to sleep.

The irony is not lost on me.

In another post there has been some discussion about the difficulties our youth have vs. the benefits of living in today¡Çs world.

My view is that our children have more pressures and negative things to deal with then I did as a child growing up in the 60's and 70's.

I wonder is anyone else has seen Satan¡Çs hand working even stronger then it was during your youth. Sure you will have more of the same in some area's but to me the times have dictated a stronger prevalence of evil and much of this I feel is aimed right at the youth of today. What are your feelings in this matter?

Boy Strawberry did you hit my feelings right on target......

I can definately tell you today satan is trying desperately harder to control our youth.

I dont remember in my teens where you could by school supplys that looked like they were for school but actually

were sold as drugs. The age of sex is now 11-12, this is the age where they now experiment......and think its cool.

Smoking and drinking is in our middle schools and elementary schools, it use to be a problem for high schoolers.

This is the day and age where money, fame, and clothing are everything, and everything you once were and all your innocence is stripped from you and gone. Teens have it way rough.......but we have one advantage over satan.....We have the abiity to be our kids

parents, friend, and guide through life, and that can do allot to stop satan.....

just my thouhts....

Don't forget cell phones--now we can monitor our kids whereabouts, 24 hours a day. The Lord is doing his part too! :D
