I remember reading a ST Thomas scripture rendition which taught that if you ate a lion, the lion would become one with you and you would then be part lion...or something interesting like that. :D;)

Yeah. I also recall things about angels being created beings which literally interbred with humans, Mary Magdelene being an apostle, and some sexual things that surely wouldn't be preached over ANY LDS pulpit! :)

Jesus said,

"Blessed is the lion which becomes man when consumed by man;

and cursed is the man whom the lion consumes, and the lion becomes man."

I don't understand it either....

But that could be taken symbolically...a metaphor for the unity of all life.

Like the sacrament...eating the body and blood of Christ.

Aw yes thats the one....of course there is also the one in this link which states:

Jesus said to them, "When you make the two one, and when you make the inside like the outside and the outside like the inside, and the above like the below, and when you make the male and the female one and the same, so that the male not be male nor the female female; and when you fashion eyes in place of an eye, and a hand in place of a hand, and a foot in place of a foot, and a likeness in place of a likeness; then will you enter the Kingdom."

That one can freak ya!

The first part makes sense because "you are what you eat", but I don't get the second half either. What is the context of the statement? Is it talking about the spiritual vs the physical?

This one seems to be talking about making our physical and spiritual selves into one new being. I think it's talking about being 'reborn" in order to enter the kingdom of God.

Oh you are the customer, Peace? I didn't know you were a Taoism investigator

So you didn't like the Gnostic scripture?

Since I am the resident Taoist, I'll explain it...you might already know this stuff...but I'll explain it for those who don't understand this Gnostic scripture:

Jesus said to them, "When you make the two one, and when you make the inside like the outside and the outside like the inside, and the above like the below, and when you make the male and the female one and the same, so that the male not be male nor the female female; and when you fashion eyes in place of an eye, and a hand in place of a hand, and a foot in place of a foot, and a likeness in place of a likeness; then will you enter the Kingdom."

Notice everything he said is about unity of opposites. Two becomes One. Outside and Inside become the same. Above and Below become the same. Male and Female become the same...etc...

This means that everything in the universe is really in unity...one thing...call this one thing "The Kingdom of Heaven" if you like. This is what the Buddhists, Taoists, Hindus, and other Eastern religions believe...that our minds divide things up by percieving them as opposites.

Only by seeing the unity of the opposites (by realizing that opposites are an illusion formed by the brain), we can see the Unity (God)...and "enter the kingdom".

This is symbolized by the Yin Yang. Two opposite pieces, one black and one white, which together form one shape...a circle. The reality is the circle. The illusion is the black and white.

So if the Gospel of Thomas is a true record of Jesus' sayings, he had similar views to the Taoists.

And that makes me a Christian!

Thanks!

I am already feeling the spirit by reading these lost scriptures.

But do I have to pray about the Gospel of Thomas to find out if it is true?

I doubt it (no pun intended.) The only scripture with that promise is the Book of Mormon.

I don't know, it seems to me that everything must

past the internal prayer view eventually.

And I agree with the unity vision, real knowlege

returns us to unity and not the other way around.

(contention really does lead to diverging opposites: :angry: vs. :D:D )

Since we're talking about parables, it seems to me this is first and foremost NOT literal. Consumed, like eating in the Bible, is rarely meant only in the literal sense anyway, even if not in a parable.

At first glance, the lion in one sense may refer to a certain affection, possibly in the natural man.

What if the lion was the Romans?

Anyone who goes "secular" is cursed.

Any Roman that opens their eyes to God is blessed.

I think in one sense you are correct. If you go deeper and liken the scripture to yourself, it may refer to an affection or love, part of your will. It is either love to the Lord and neighbor or love of self.

How about this one?

"And they praise the men of the propagation

of falsehood, those who will come after you.

And they will cleave to the name of a dead

man, thinking that they will become pure.

But they will become greatly defiled and they

will fall into a name of error, and into the hand

of an evil, cunning man and a manifold dogma,

and they will be ruled heretically."

(Jesus Christ - The Apocalypse of Peter 74)

This seems a prophecy of the coming apostacy

doesn't it? B)
