Guest Alana Posted November 16, 2009 Report Posted November 16, 2009 SO for our next trip to the cannery we're doing refried beans. Has anyone had them? Do you like them? How do they compare with regular refried beans? Quote
pitcher Posted November 16, 2009 Report Posted November 16, 2009 I was not impressed with the taste of the refried beans. They also have a short storage life Quote
Guest Alana Posted November 16, 2009 Report Posted November 16, 2009 Thanks Pitcher. I don't think I'm going to get any. We don't eat them that often and if I do want them, I could always make them from the oodles of pinto beans we have, eh? Quote
California_Dreaming Posted November 16, 2009 Report Posted November 16, 2009 I like the refied beans; but I also like Spam (natures most perfect food). I just checked the label and the "short shelf life" is 5+ years , which shouldn't be a problem in rotating the supply. Being from California, we like Mexican style food; I do add some additional water to the mixture to get the texture that I like. To see if you like them, check at the dry pack to see if amyone had "left overs". Some one had left a small amount that just didn't fit into their total cans. The mananger suggested I take it home and try it. I did. The next trip back I purchased 25# to can for myself. I know that I would probably never eat the total 25#, but then I plan on sharing with others. Quote
annamaureen Posted November 16, 2009 Report Posted November 16, 2009 Eh, they're not the tastiest thing ever. Quote
havejoy Posted November 17, 2009 Report Posted November 17, 2009 We add dehydrated onions to them before we add the water. After they absorb the water we add cheese. They aren't bad after you doctor them up a little. Quote
