rameumptom Posted February 26, 2010 Report Posted February 26, 2010 That is my problem with this discussion. Because Ehrman is now an agnostic, he is no longer credible? Yet, I also quoted Margaret Barker, who is a very active Methodist pastor. Is she a heretic, also? This morning my wife and I were watching the Duggar family television show (a rerun). In this one, they went to a state part to search for diamonds. The park official stated that the diamonds were made in a super-volcano several millions of years ago. The Duggars noted that this contradicted the Bible, and used circular logic, so it couldn't be correct. IOW, the nice park ranger was a heretic and wrong, because his interpretation of the scientific record did not jibe with their reading of the Bible! Could it be that they are interpreting the Bible in the wrong way? Did you know that the Bible also teaches a flat earth, and is earth-centric? What would have happened if the Church would have kept insisting the Bible was right, and killed all of the Galileos that stood up for science? I don't see how the Duggars (who I think are a nice family) can believe in a 6000 year old earth, but also believe the earth is round and not the center of the universe. Consistency is required, if one insists on a sola scriptura view. The science and scholarship is moving more and more to the ideas that these "heretics" are establishing. Quote
