HEthePrimate Posted February 9, 2010 Report Posted February 9, 2010 A couple members of my family seem to be doing most of the genealogy. One of them works for the Church, and the other is retired and is able to travel to our ancestors' countries. However, they seem to be handing the family history aspect over to me, since I have a big interest in, well, history. So, they gather the names, places, birth and death data, etc., I get a copy, and I can do research into how they fit into the historical scheme of things and share my findings with everybody else. Kinda cool! Though what the genealogists do is more important for getting the temple work done, what I do is good for "turning the hearts of the children to the fathers," as my dad pointed out. Happily, I was able to serve a mission in a country that a number of our ancestors were from, and it was great feeling that connection. :) HEP Quote
RanMan Posted May 19, 2010 Report Posted May 19, 2010 I love the Family History part. I have to do both, because no one on either side of my family are willing to do the work. But your dad makes an excellent point. I find that as I learn more about my ancestors I find my heart turning towards them. They become real people to me - which of course they are - and feel a bond to them forming. Not only that, it's fun to talk about. :) Quote
Torrence Posted June 17, 2011 Report Posted June 17, 2011 My Gramma Jane told define the difference. Genealogy is the names and dates and Family History is getting to know the people behind the names and dates. Kshuller 1 Quote
sakuragirl Posted January 20, 2012 Report Posted January 20, 2012 My goal is to make it so if a great grand child of mine in the future opened my work, they would know more than the name or date but get a idea of that person. I have entered everything I can find from schooling to employment to stories. Quote
