LarsenSecond Counselor in the Young Women General PresidencyKeep your eyes riveted on your goal … and walk in the straight and narrow path of the Son—the Son of God.Sharon G. Larsen, “Your Light in the Wilderness,” Ensign, May 1999, 89Knowing what you may or may not know, what would you think of an eight-year camping trip in the wilderness—no trips to town, no light, not even a fire? This describes the experience Father Lehi and his family had when they were told by the Lord to leave Jerusalem. I’ll bet there was some murmuring in the camp—and not a lot of volunteers! There were undoubtedly young women like you on this marathon trip. The Lord warned them not to make any fires. Then He taught them, “I will … be your light in the wilderness; and I will prepare the way before you, if … ye shall keep my commandments; … ye shall be led towards the promised land; and ye shall know that it is by me that ye are led” (1 Ne. 17:13).You all must have promised lands that you would like to go to, and you can have your own light in that wilderness that challenges young people today. This light comes all wrapped up in love, the Lord’s love for every one of His children, and especially for young people. The Lord knows that you face challenges and temptations, and He provides the light that brightens your hearts, your minds, and your spirits. He has said that His word is truth and truth is light and light is the Spirit of Jesus Christ (see D&C 84:45). Quote
Guest Syble Posted January 18, 2006 Report Posted January 18, 2006 It is a good principle being taught. We are all out in the wilderness as times, regardless of our ages. We all can have access and use of the Light of Christ. I would only suggest the form of receiving that light as rebirth. It had to be what made the difference between the murmurers and those who endured. (Moroni 7:47-48.) The 10 virgins having oil, but not all carrying the extra, which comes only through going the extra mile, one could learn not only the steps or the spiritual conditions required to gain the strength necessary for such trials as Lehi's family experienced. Repentence is a beatiltude or rather a be-attitude and again is foundin the sermon on the Mount. The end result was to be perfect, as taught in Moroni 10:32-33. This is ultimately the oil, power to endure until the Bridgroom or Savior comes. This is the path which leads to the Light which is truth which is the Spirit of Christ. Quote
Josie Posted January 18, 2006 Report Posted January 18, 2006 We all need to depend on Jesus Christ more and ourselves and others less. Not to say that we still don't have responsibility, we do! But to say that we need to put things in the hands of the Lord. "We pray like everything depends on the Lord, and work like everything depends on us." How many times have we heard that quote and yet do we really do it? Quote
Aristotle Posted January 18, 2006 Report Posted January 18, 2006 Another quote: The Lord helps those who help themselves. Quote
