I've seen youtube videos where they had a vacuum sealer that vacuumed the air out of the Mylar bags. I've not found a home vacuum sealer that will do that.

I called the Foodsaver Company and they told me that even their commercial food saver won't do it. Are any of you using a vacuum sealer that actually vacuums the air out of the bag? If so, could you direct me to what works. Thanks

It isn't official but one guy found a way to do it with a Foodsaver:

YouTube - How to Vacuum Seal Mylar Bags using a FoodSaver

Edit: Having read your other thread I note that you have heavy duty mylar bags which may prevent that trick from working. I'm not sure i'd want to do it anyway, those Foodsaver bags are a bit expensive, probably best to keep looking.

I use my wife's hair straightener set to "high"- I seal most of the bag, squeeze the air out, then finish up the seal. Works great. Don't do this while your wife is home though...

hi again

I use my vaccuum. I place a stocking over the end. If I am doing flour instead of beans or rice I make sure I put some paper towels over the top of the flour. Leave a few inches at the top of the bag, it's easier than trying to fight with the bag and not suck up all your flour. Extra hands help doing this, but I go to office depot and get those big clips...they are metal so when I iron the bags they won't get damaged.

have a wonderful holiday
