Guest mormonmusic Posted December 20, 2010 Posted December 20, 2010 (edited) · Hidden Hidden No boycotts here. With the millions of product in their catalog, I give them a pass if something gets through that society objects to. Also, pedophilia is not a theme for them -- they are out to be the largest department store on earth, and they have produced innovations that are ground-breaking -- I respect that in them, and can forgive a mistake like this, particularly since they took the product out of their catalog. Backroads Posted December 20, 2010 Report Posted December 20, 2010 I've been an Amazon junkie for ten years... not quitting now. They can sell what they like, but that doesn't mean I have to buy it. I am against the book, I don't think the author should have been arrested. HOWEVER... (and I can understand if this gets this post deleted) pedophilia is somewhat misunderstood. Everyone is horrified by people who have those urges (and rightly so) yet no one ever bothers to help them. Quote
HEthePrimate Posted December 27, 2010 Report Posted December 27, 2010 Yeah, I'm not going to boycott Amazon.com. It seems to me that the whole point of free speech rights is to protect unpopular or "offensive" speech--if it protected only "acceptable" speech, the First Amendment would be unnecessary. I don't know the contents of that book on pedophilia (and suspect most people don't), but if all it did was offer a sympathetic view of pedophiles, though many would find that to be offensive, it would be protected by the First Amendment. If, on the other hand, it actually incited people to commit crimes, that would be a different thing. Quote
