star456 Posted November 30, 2010 Report Posted November 30, 2010 Is it possible to feel guilty and really think you did something that you really didnt do?? Like If i feel guilty about something as if i had done it but dont remember doing it Quote
Dravin Posted November 30, 2010 Report Posted November 30, 2010 The closest to that is waking up from a dream feeling bad for something I did in the dream, but that usually fades once I wake up the rest of the way and realize it is a dream not a memory. Though I have had once or twice where I've remembered a dream out of context and sorta panicked for a second or two before once again I realize it's a dream not a memory. Quote
JudoMinja Posted December 2, 2010 Report Posted December 2, 2010 It is certainly possible. This is because their are two forms of guilt- true guilt and false guilt. True guilt is guilt which leads us to repentance. It is a feeling of godly sorrow for something we have done wrong. When we feel true guilt, we wish to correct our behavior and become a better person. False guilt is guilt which simply makes us feel horrid. We begin doubting ourselves, tearing ourselves apart, becoming depressed, and drawing in on ourselves. There is no desire to correct behavior, only self-destructive thoughts. We feel the pain and anguish of a damned soul, because this is guilt Satan uses to try and bring us down and keep us from repenting. False guilt can be felt for things that merit true guilt or things over which there is absolutely no need to feel guilty at all. The second cause of false guilt is often brought on by the belittling words of others and can be a sign of abuse. If you think you are feeling guilty over something you need not feel guilty about, take some time to ponder your guilt. Prayerfully determine whether you have actually done anything wrong. If you have not, cast aside your guilt. If you have, seek repentance. Quote
