I'm trying to decide how to plan my career future.

I was trained a teacher. This spring, my contract was not renewed. So were a lot of other teachers. So the teaching job market was very competitive, and instead I wound up working for the local BSA council. I LOVE my job there and I'm pretty much obsessed with Boy Scouts. It's also a lot less stressful than teaching. My will-then-be husband and I will be moving to Logan, Utah in the fall.

While I plan on looking for teaching jobs in that area, my boss likes the idea of transferring me to the council office in Logan. Which would be great. It's just that since teaching jobs aren't really posted until April and May, it's hard to really plan anything for sure.

Part of me wants to say "to heck with teaching" and stay with the BSA. But I did enjoy teaching, and the hours are better. But I already have this job and it's a sure thing.

Any advice?

Do what you love. If teaching is it, then I would try to find a way to continue to do that. I was laid off from the automotive field over a year ago. Even though I found a job, I ended up having to leave that one to move to the east coast due to my wife landing a new job. She is the bread winner in our house. Even though I didn't mind automotive I had always wanted to try something different. Even though I was very good at it, I didn't find much satisfaction with the job. After being forced into unemployment again, I decided to go back to school and complete my degree. After lots of prayer I realized that the degree was the only thing holding me back and I now see that everything together, the layoff, moving, etc. gave me the ability to stay home and go back full time instead of part time. This will allow me to find what I love, finally.

Pray about your situation and ask for guidance. Maybe everything is being set up for you to find the job of your dreams. Good luck to you.

I would go with the sure thing, the job transfer. Then you can check for job openings in the teaching field when you get settled or as they become available. I would advise against leaving a good job without the promise of getting another pretty quickly unless you can afford to be jobless for a long period of time.
