rex8499 Posted March 9, 2011 Report Posted March 9, 2011 Did Moroni take the Urim and Thummim too when he took back the gold plates? Quote
Just_A_Guy Posted March 9, 2011 Report Posted March 9, 2011 If you mean the stones set into the breastplate: As far as we know, yes. (There are some people who argue that he actually took them back after the 116 pages episode, and that Joseph never got them again.)Now, Joseph Smith also had a separate seer stone he had found while digging a well, and which was used during at least some of the translation process. He gave that stone to (as I recall) a member of the Cowdery or Whitmer family at some point in his life, and missionaries from the Utah church later obtained that stone stone and brought it back to Salt Lake City. The Church still has it. Quote
rex8499 Posted March 9, 2011 Author Report Posted March 9, 2011 Yeah, I meant the breastplate and stones. This other seer stone is the first I've heard about it that I can remember. Does the church have that on display somewhere or is it hidden away in some vault? Or maybe it's the prophets desk drawer to be used as needed? Quote
Just_A_Guy Posted March 10, 2011 Report Posted March 10, 2011 It's in the first presidency vault, which is in the same building where the first presidency's offices are. Last time it was shown publicly, I think, was at the Manti temple dedication in the 1870s. Quote
rex8499 Posted March 10, 2011 Author Report Posted March 10, 2011 I'd love a chance to peek inside that vault... Quote

rex8499 Posted March 11, 2011 Author Report Posted March 11, 2011 What size is that stone? Can't tell if it's just a pebble or a something larger from that picture. Quote
