So, I got the itch to highlight my own hair... just a few, I said, and now I have this terrible brassy color coating my whole crown. It's so gross I can hardly look at myself... and it washes me out and makes me look very sick. Re-dying it is NOT an option, because I don't want to risk the overall health of my hair that way (I will get it colored for graduation in two months). So does anyone have any solutions to which I can tone this bassiness down? Personal experiences??? Tell me that I am not the only idiot out there! And believe me, I am not THAT kind of girl that spends every other moment in her own refelctions, but in this case, I really can't stand it >=/

well, my hairdresser suggested ketchup once. She said that the acid in it would gently strip the hair, although that was a suggestion for blond hair.

Otherwise, I guess wash it, wash it, wash it. Red fades the fastest.

I've had my hair done at an Aveda salon before. Their dyes were so gentle on my hair. It felt great afterward, nothing at all like a box dye. If you can afford it, go to a hair dresser who knows what they are doing so they can gently help your color out.

Oh, boy, have I been there. At nineteen I had really long silky dark ash brown hair. Did I say long? I moved the tail of it to sit down. I went to a hair salon and let some guy apply color or henna, I don't remember which. It was supposed to give me a slight change in color. I walked out of there with a bright orange cap on top of my head (the orange 'took' from the roots to about six inches in length) and no where else. I wore a scarf for a couple of weeks until we figured out how to fix it and I don't remember how. I know you cannot use color after henna. I know people with hidden red (where your dark color covers a tendency to go red) can go red pretty strongly if their color is lightened at all).

Try applying a baking soda/water paste and letting it sit for half an hour. I think this will reduce the effect. Also use a good conditioner as baking soda is a terrific shampoo but tends to be a little drying - though it took me using it for a couple of months before I realized this. It may not be drying in a few days use. Good Luck!
