Caboose Posted July 1, 2011 Report Posted July 1, 2011 Hello, My name is Dean and I sought out LDS.net to learn a bit more about the LDS church, its members and its tenets. We have fairly recently become friends with a couple of families that are LDS members. My son became friends with one of the boys through school and has become involved in one of the local Boy Scout troops that is sponsored by the LDS church. Every one I've met has been very welcoming and my son has spent some time with a couple of the boys from the troop as well as their families. We are going to be having one or two of the families over to our home for dinner in a week. Our family is not LDS and, to be honest, I don't know a lot about the beliefs of the LDS church. There are a few of the basics that I am aware of such as the fact that LDS members do not consume alcohol and are to also stay away from caffeine. I want to make sure that I do not do anything out of ignorance that would offend the guests that we will be welcoming into our home. Are there any other things that I should be aware of? Thanks in advance for any input. While we are not members, we do deeply respect the faith that those in the LDS church exhibit. We are very appreciative of the value the Church puts on family and share that value. Regards, Dean Quote
spiritseeker Posted July 2, 2011 Report Posted July 2, 2011 Welcome Caboose to LDS . NET this is a great site. I have been away myself for awhile. Mormons are really no different in social habits. We like to eat and you know the two biggies (No caffeine and No Alcohol) Its part of what we refer to as the Word of Wisdom. Basic health guidelines provided by the Lord... Just have fun , Mormons love to do that! : ) Oh and have green jello for dessert its an unwritten law!!!! Just kidding........ Or am I????? Quote
