  1. High upon two hills rested the eternity of man. One the hill of calvary , atonement... The other the hill Cumorah , restoration. From one tree came mans damnation, The tree of good and evil. Christ hanging from a tree man's salvation, The wooden cross of calvary... Such sacrifice........ Two brothers shed their blood, One Jesus Christ The other Joseph Smith. Heavenly Fathers eternal plan Come full circle....
  2. Oh I have been away awhile I didn't know others have posted already , sorry. If it becomes negative I ask the moderators to close it. That is not my attention in posting this.
  3. I was wondering what others thought about the new musical "Book of Mormon"? Its really a good piece of work. Yes some of it is offensive in the swearing ect. But , I hang out with friends and we try and go to a show once every few months or some other artistic endeavour. We went to see this show and on the ride home( I am about two hours from NYC) Friends who never really wanted to know much about the church asked me so many questions that when we stopped for dinner I brought the Book Of Mormon(They requested me to bring it in!) And one of my friends asked about coming to services!!! I find it wonderful how Heavenly Father used what some might term a negative and turned it into a positive. Any one else had similiar things happen to them?
  4. I think everyone on this site has had that wish at one time or another! She has a magnetic personality. Love you Pam!
  5. That is the whole point of baptism for the dead in LDS teachings. When someones passes over they go to the Spirit World. In the Spirit World all peoples are given the chance to accept or reject the true gospel. I believe this is one of the most precious truths that were restored to mankind. It shows the real mercy of Heavenly Father! He does not desire that any of us should end up in hell! It gives me hope for my father and both sets of my grandparents will listen and accept in the Spirit World and we will be together for eternity. ITs like in the Apostles creed where it says that Christ descended into "Hell" what its talking about is Christ went there to preach to all those who lived before He came to earth. There is such hope in the message of baptisms for the dead and the Holy Temples. I am so grateful to belong to this church.
  6. It makes me think that Satanis so cunning! In a moment of weakness he knows just what little bit of information or action will lead us down a slippery slope. And speaking from expeirence its usually when you are tired or depressed or neglectful of your studies that he slithers up to push you over the edge. I pray for all of us that we keep watch for the adversary he is looking and we must be vigilant.
  7. Welcome Caboose to LDS . NET this is a great site. I have been away myself for awhile. Mormons are really no different in social habits. We like to eat and you know the two biggies (No caffeine and No Alcohol) Its part of what we refer to as the Word of Wisdom. Basic health guidelines provided by the Lord... Just have fun , Mormons love to do that! : ) Oh and have green jello for dessert its an unwritten law!!!! Just kidding........ Or am I?????
  8. Its a long and complicated issue. Israel and Palestine as well as the Arab world in general are all at fault. No ones hands are free of innocent blood. I am tired of the "holocaust" guilt card that Israel plays every time someone dares to critisize them... Israel doesn't allow any to stand against them if you try you are classified a anti-semite! There needs to be compromise something one must have humility for and both sides seem to be lacking this one great virtue. It seems to me that the Israeli , Palestinian conflict will always be around. It is like the question "Which came first the chicken or the egg?!?" No one knows....
  9. In my humble opinion it's about time America enters the 21'st century. Many nations have had socialized medicine. I grew up in Germany and we knew that if you were sick you could see the doctor. Okay , maybe there was a waiting period but never the less we saw a doctor. But, I am now one of a majority of Americans who do not have health insurance. Hence I can't afford to see a doctor... So, I thank President Obama for standing his ground! Perhaps this will lose me friends around here. But , I don't care what you label it people need healthcare we are the richest nation in the world and yet its citizens go with out proper healthcare. Shame on us!!! If you want to call it socialism then I say Long live socialism!! I voted for President Obama and I think he is doing a wonderful job!
  10. R.I.P. Michael Jackson... You will be missed , maybe now you can find the answers you searched for.
  11. Thank you all for your kind responses. Tomorrow is the funeral I will be leaving around 7AM and should get to the city about 11:00 Am. Services are at 1:00. ( Want to have it done before the Shabat comes in.) I will keep you all informed as to how it goes. It's just so senseless... I can't think of any problem I would kill myself over. Like the old cliche; " Suicide is a permanent solution to a temporary problem." God bless you all!!
  12. No he was not a member of the Church. I called his mother and ex wife Sunday and of course they are devestated. He had been dealing with some personal issues... I know he had a good heart he just had some problems. I am sad and at the same time angry for/at him! The funeral is this Friday in the city(NYC). Perhaps if it is oppurtune I could mention my faith.... don't know. They are Jewish not active but, coming from a Jewish background myself I know how defensive we can be... I'll have to pray about it.
  13. I received a phone call late Saturday night a good friend took his own life. I am heartbroken that he didn't reach out to me or someone. I feel so sad that he felt so lost that suicide seemed a solution.... It just seems so senseless.... My question is where is he now? I am a newer member and don't know what the LDS position is on this issue. Can I still do Temple work for him??? I thank Heavenly Father for my faith because without it I would be a real wreck right now.
  14. Speaking for the members in my ward our sympathy is with Iranians right now. It's no longer a political issue. It's a human rights issue... My heart aches for these children of Heavenly Father.
  15. Let me wish you hearty welcome! LDS.net is a welcoming community. I hope you will feel that for yourself. And, I agree with Carl we need more people like you in the church....
  16. I just wanted to say welcome. I hope you find us to be a family for you also.:)
  17. Just to clarify AJ it is not what you said it is the manner and context which you make the statement. As if Joseph Smith was just a 14 yr. old boy. To us as LDS members he is a Prophet of God and has done more for mankind than anyone other than Jesus himself. We know you don't believe that but we do and this is our "home" please show us some respect is all I am saying.
  18. All I can say is the ONLY way you can now that what we are saying is true is to pray. Yet , you have closed your heart to that because you fear that the devil will mislead you. So there is no way for us to help you. No matter how many have offered you answers you just answer it by saying ; "We didn't answer it!" I would also like to say the way you speak of our beloved Prophet Joseph Smith in such deragatory manners as referring to him as "A 14 yr. old boy" is insulting to us. You have come to our home and insulted us. How would you feel if we came to your evangelical sites and made light of your faith? This is one of my pet peeves it happens on facebook and especially you tube where we leave an endearing comment on one of our(LDS) videos and we get emails from "born-again" Christians with the same arrogance I feel when I read your post here... We as members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints believe in freedom of religion. Let a man worship who or what he wishes. All we ask for is the same courtesy from others. Is that to much to ask for? I just feel no matter what we say you won't listen... If you are trying to "convert" us let it go brother you are preaching to the choir!
  19. I would say when you question , " Should I? " You should. It is always better to talk to the Bishop than not...
  20. Thank you for sharing this article with us. I find these stories so inspiring because they show the real universality of this faith we all share. It just makes you want to thank Heavenly Father for restoring the gospel to earth.:)
  21. I don't know if it is 50% but it is high. I think as Islander said I think part of it is many don't hang on to the Iron Rod. But I feel the Church needs to do more to integrate the new convert in to the fold. I have thought a good idea might be a mentor program where each new convert is hooked up with a member and that member checks in with the convert periodically. (Kind of like a sponsor in twelve steps) Because I too believe that being LDS is more than a religion it is a way of life. I will confess here to all of you as a new convert , Oh how do I say this? Please forgive me ..... I am a registered DEMOCRAT:eek::eek: I know it's not a normal thing for you guys I hope it doesn't keep me out of the Celestial Kingdom!!!!! All kidding aside I do think we need to address this issue because peoples souls hang in the balance.... And since I am coming clean here...... I voted for Obama!!! I hope Pam will still want to marry me......
  22. So from my understanding you don't trust the Spirit enough to ask him a question because it may be the devil lying to you? Where is your faith ? The Jesus I know would never lead me astray. Until you have prayed about it you can't really say for sure if your faith in the born again expierence is true or not or whether what we believe is right? Your reasoning is like the ostrich who sticks their head in the sand because they are frightened. As for the whole knowing for sure your salvation is guaranteed. I find that form of thinking prideful. As a LDS I know what I must do to recieve the glory of exaltation and I work at it daily. But , I feel to say that I know for sure where I will go is wrong. As it says in the scriptures pride goeth before the fall.... And , I know that one can lose their salvation if they do not follow the Saviour's teachings. I have read your previous post and it seems to me you have closed your mind to even the thought of the restored gospel. What's the point of being here then????? Someday I pray someone will be able to do your work in the temple sir because you have hardened your heart on this side...
  23. Hi zero_R it sounds to me that it was most certainly confirmed to you that this relationship was the right one. Perhaps it's that as the date gets closer you are beginning to doubt and get cold feet. That's normal from my understanding don't read to much into it right now. As prison chaplain said if it's the right thing it will be the right thing in a few months. There is no need to rush into anything. If the feelings continue perhaps you could speak with your bishop. I don't know if this helps ... Please let us know how things go.
  24. It's funny I was thinking today about this and was wondering how long it will be before the first Prophet of African descent is called? With the current trend in Church demographics many if not the majority of membership is in non caucasian parts of the world. I mean we have our first African American US President... The times they are a changing.:)
