Guest tbaird22 Posted July 10, 2011 Report Posted July 10, 2011 Is it correct to believe that based on the question the saducees asked Jesus in Matt 22:28 (starting in 23) the saducees already had some sort of belief in eternal marraige? why would they ask whose why she was going to be in the next life if they didnt have said belief? I had never thought of this before haha just wondering what your thoughts were. Quote
Just_A_Guy Posted July 10, 2011 Report Posted July 10, 2011 (edited) No, it was a set-up. The Sadducees denied that there was any resurrection at all (so they were sad, you see . . .). The intent of the question was to make the idea of a resurrection look ridiculous (because even they understood that if there was a resurrection, it was only logical that marriage should endure into that resurrection); and Jesus' response must be evaluated in that light. His answer was a defense of resurrection and a vague affirmation that it was an orderly process, not an exposition on the legalities of marriage. Edited July 10, 2011 by Just_A_Guy Quote

rameumptom Posted July 11, 2011 Report Posted July 11, 2011 Definitely a set up. Sadduccees did not believe in resurrection. Jesus' point to them was that there is a resurrection, but the woman and her husbands would not be married in the eternities, because as Sadduccees they would not have followed the proper order of eternal marriage - hence they would be angels in heaven.
