LeKook Posted September 26, 2011 Report Posted September 26, 2011 Which study manual for the Book of Mormon is more in-depth, the Seminary Manual or the Student Manual? Thanks! :) -LeKook Quote
rameumptom Posted September 26, 2011 Report Posted September 26, 2011 Neither. Both are designed to briefly discuss concepts that are separated out of the context within which they are written. They are built for people who do not know much about the gospel. For a person looking for in-depth study of the Book of Mormon, you will have to go with more scholarly efforts that are out there. These will do one or two things: first consolidated ideas into themes, which ties the teachings and concepts together; second, they will enter into textual criticism, meaning they will analyze phrases or even words to see how they can potentially impact the concepts being written about. For an example of this, look at Joe Spencer's blog posts at FmH regarding Abish and the conversion of King Lamoni and his wife: Joe Spencer critical analysis of the story of Abish Quote
LittleWyvern Posted September 26, 2011 Report Posted September 26, 2011 If you're looking to get a more scholarly book on the subject, the BYU bookstore has a lot of good stuff. :) Quote
