Just wondering, does your ward have an activity on Memorial Day? Every year my ward has a Memorial Day breakfast in a public park. Usually a couple of Elders go there eeaarrllyy in the morning to reserve a shelter/picnic area. When the time comes, the rest of the ward shows up, cooks the food, and chows down. Afterwards they typically have sports, like a softball game, soccer, or frisbee. Or more than one of those. It's lots of fun to hang out with ward members in a social way, and eat some real breakfast food, as opposed to the usual cold cereal! :)

To all veterans, and those currently serving, thank you for your service! I have friends currently serving in the military. I know they are the best, and it's good to know there are high-quality people like them doing those tough jobs. Holiday activities like the ward breakfast are fun, but it's important to remember those who help make the world a safer and freer place.

When I held the Ward Activities Organizer calling 2 years ago, we held activities on the following:

Easter

Memorial

July 4

Labor

Halloween

Christmas

Memorial Day Activity is just like you have there. In my county, you can reserve a pavilion at the public park. So, we get the pavilion and it already comes with a grill. We have brunch and people just congregate to form games and such. The park is right next to the river so some people go fishing.

But now that there's no more Ward Activity Committee, we don't do these activities anymore. Seems like the only activities the ward auxiliaries have time to do is Easter and Halloween.

Yes, to all veterans and active military. THANK YOU!

We have a chili/chocolate cookoff and pinewood derby in March, the Memorial Day breakfast, a Halloween party, and a Christmas party on an annual basis. Things are kind of topsy-turvy since the elimination of the Activities Committee, but we're still doing those four activities. :)

We have pinewood derby yearly but it's not a Ward Activity (as in sponsored by the auxiliaries). It is an activity sponsored by the Scouting Program. We also have bike rodeos, rain-gutter regattas, and rocket launching. All activities sponsored by the Scouting Program as well.

We have a yearly river-tubing day every summer too. That's sponsored by the YM/YW.

We used to have chili cook-offs before I got the Ward Activities Committee calling. I didn't hold one because I can't stand chili. I know, I know, it's not for me, it's for the ward... but, I just can't stand chili...

My ward actually also does breakfast on Memorial Day. They do it at some some circle in the neighborhood. I hear they even got other (less active) members out.

On the other side I have a tradition of not going to the Ward Memorial Day breakfast. The first year I was still living at my parents house, but had bought the house I have now. The second year I was visting my brother.

We've got a BBQ & swim party, vollyball & socializing planned at a member's home. Looking forward to going and bringing my family with me. (Let the ward tell her about how well I'm serving, instead of me!)
