bcguy Posted October 9, 2012 Report Posted October 9, 2012 lds2, the reason why europe has been experiencing colder then usall winters, is because of the great ice melt off of the arctic, Greenland and Iceland. The fresh cold water is circulating in the Atlantic which is having a strong affect on the weather in Europe. Think of the arctic as the northern hemisphere air conditioner. If you put the AC aka, water melt, into the Atlantic, it will cool the Atlantic air and trade winds will push that into Europe. 2/3 of the plant is coveted by water. Majority of coastal countries weather are affected by oceanic water temperatures. Im afraid, if most of the arctic is ice free, global droughts and famine in the northern hemisphere will follow. lds2 Posted October 9, 2012 Author Report Posted October 9, 2012 It seems also that the "trade winds" have not been working right for several years now. Whether this is caused by the same phenomenon are something else is a huge debate. But the "500 year" drought in Russia and the almost non-stop flooding in other areas that year were caused by failure of the winds to move systems. The flooding in the northern part of the country last year and the drought in the south were caused by something similar. The drought this year is also caused by a failure of the winds to work the way they are supposed to. What is causing this is a debate similar to "the chicken and the egg." Some people say it started with the currents in the gulf getting messed up by the oil disaster there. Other's global warming or "colding" ... Our "weather weirding" is most likely an unfortunate combination of many things. Quote
