If you read the script, it actually looks pretty good.

It seems that Stallone is returning to his Roman Catholic roots after a few decade hiatius, and want's to incorporate a more spiritual outlook onto Rambo.

Well, he has the character right; Rambo was a borderline atheist in the (very good) book. He also got killed at the end, making sequels a bit tougher.

Rambo's still living with the monks. Some Christian missionaries need a guide in this southeast asian country, and Rambo is recruited. It seems that some Pirates cause some trouble, and Rambo takes them out. Then when he drops off the missionaries, and goes back to his place, the missionaries and village people are raided by some bad government dudes. Rambo is again recruited to rescue the missionaries and he does his usual kick butt stuff.

How's that for a summation?
