I think it depends on WHO is rebuking WHOM. MrMarklin, you weren't rebuked in the way that the Lord would have us rebuke. You had someone who used the word "rebuke" and "Lord" in the same sentence to try to use some authority to tell you that you are wrong in whatever you were trying to get across.

For a Born Again Christian (my cousin) or a Catholic (my mother) being an LDS is truly the path to hell. Rebuking in this instance - of course when done with the same charity and love as Jesus' example and not just to one-up somebody on the internet - is, according to their belief system, what Jesus wants them to do.

I was formally "rebuked" by a "born again christian" on another discussion forum once, who disagreed with my position on the point of doctrine we were discussing. He really thought I was in a position of going to hell.

I don't think there is any place for it in LDS doctrine.

To be fair, I've noticed a cultural difference between us of the LDS faith and those of the Born-Again variety. I'm sure there are plenty of exceptions, but Born-Agains seem to be as a whole more forward on such matters. I don't know of too many LDS folks telling others "you're going to hell". I theorize aspects of our beliefs, including a certain article of faith, keep up from full-out believing non-LDS folks are going to hell; therefore, we don't run around telling it to people. This isn't so within Born-Again Christianity.

This person on the forum believes you are going to hell. He told you so probably in hopes you would change your ways and NOT go to hell. Kind of like with anatess' mom.

Example of something of a rebuke my husband just did: a long-time friend of his has more-or-less left the Church and started into the army life of drinking and smoking. Good kid, possibly just going through a time of [bad] experience, not necessarily slated for hell. Husband rebuked him once: told him he should be going to church, focusing on the possibility of a mission, should stop smoking and drinking.

For this rebuke: he told someone that what they were doing was wrong with the inclusion of what they should be doing.
