dahlia Posted March 22, 2013 Report Posted March 22, 2013 I ordered a big shirt through a catalog. It arrived today and I love it - except, it is a little thin. Is it OK to just wear the garment underneath on hot days, without putting a tank top over it? The material is not transparent. The exact outlines of the garment would not be visible, just that I had 'something' on under the shirt. The idea of garment, tank top, and shirt, even a light weight shirt, is already making me glow.* *As my grandmother would say, "Ladies don't perspire, they 'glow.'" Looks like Nana was right: Men perspire and women glow, science proves - Telegraph Quote
tubaloth Posted March 23, 2013 Report Posted March 23, 2013 I don't think there is any rule about this. If you feel comfortable with how it looks go for it. Quote
bytor2112 Posted March 23, 2013 Report Posted March 23, 2013 Wait, don't women wear a brassiere over the garment? So....really nothing would show....... Quote
dahlia Posted March 23, 2013 Author Report Posted March 23, 2013 Wait, don't women wear a brassiere over the garment? So....really nothing would show.......I was told that I could go either way, the most important thing was to wear the garment. Plus, bra straps wouldn't hide the wider garment material on the shoulders. Quote

jillantuna Posted March 25, 2013 Report Posted March 25, 2013 I work at the distribution center in the garments and temple clothing. We have always been taught that as long as your shirt is entirely covering your garments without you having to alter them in any way, ie tucking your sleeves, then you are perfectly fine. There is no need for you to wear an undershirt on top of it. Quote

ACommonMan Posted March 25, 2013 Report Posted March 25, 2013 The fact that Mormons wear special underwear is widely know. (Steve Martian wearing an undershirt in a movie led to the rumor he was Mormon) It's not about keeping them secret. The onus we have in wearing The Garment of The Holy Priesthood is that we don't alter it to fit styles and we don't leave it open to potential ridicule. (i.e. clearly visible) So long as the markings are not distinguishable I wouldn't worry about it. I would, however, be prepared for some members to be less understanding. Quote
Guest Posted March 25, 2013 Report Posted March 25, 2013 Anyone who notices is looking too hard. Quote
dahlia Posted March 26, 2013 Author Report Posted March 26, 2013 It just looks like I have on a white or cream colored tank underneath. No markings are visible. Quote
