Where can I find stats about Christian and LDS women in the US

This might seem like an odd question to ask you, but we have people here from many different educational backgrounds and careers...perhaps someone knows the answer to my odd question.

Ok, for the "about the market" section of my book proposal, I am trying to figure out how many Christian and LDS women there are in the US. Yes, I know LDS people are Christian but I mean members of the LDS church, and also Christian women of other faiths.

I have read that librarians are wizards at research and they can point me in the right direction if I ask them? Is that true? I don't have time to go to the library right now. Oh, hey, my library website has an "ask the librarian" feature that is live chat 24 hrs a day. I'll try that too, and let you know!

Thanks, you are right, Google is a tremendous help. You have to be smart enough to figure out the right words to put in the search box though...and I am about 50/50 with that one, LOL!

It turns out though that the "ask a librarian" (which is a national program) was a huge help. A librarian in Tennessee (I'm in Washington), told me that the census does ask about religion, I hadn't thought that it did. She even gave me a link to wikipedia, which we agreed is not always the go to wource, but a good starting point. It is sufficient for my needs right now.

If anyone is curious, here is what I came up with..

63 million women in the age group 25-55, 78% of the population is Christian (Catholic, Christian, LDS, and Protestant) = 49 million.

Statistics say 1 in 4 women is sexually abused before 18, so my final # is 12 million.

United States Demographics Profile 2013

I realize that 1 in 6 men are also abused, by most books are bought by women, so I have focused on them for this...

Thanks all! Back to work...

If you are doing a Google search, put the term you want in quotes "LDS women US" you can forget words like in, and, or, etc. Putting the term in quotes ought to bring up info on exactly that topic (which may or may not include stats, but should), as opposed to all info on LDS, all on women, all on US. : )

Librarians know where to find the stats on many topics - they can put their hands on them faster than you can if you aren't familiar with the databases where the stats reside.

I used the 'ask a librarian' email at BYU's library and they were quite qood at getting back in a timely manner and with the depth of response that I needed. They have LDS studies librarians who are especially knowledgeable about LDS resources, you might want to contact them for LDS stats that you are having trouble finding on your own.
