A Funny Thing Happened To Me On The Way. . . . . .

I met my VT at Mimi's Restaurant today at 1:30 PM for a late lunch. We meet every other month at a restaurant for our meetings. We alternate paying. I wanted to treat her to a Christmas Lunch - but she got the jump on me - paid for it in advance!!

When I first came to this Ward - I really did not like this woman. She was such a Do-Gooder. She knew everything - and you didn't have to ask her to find out either. At least that was how I "saw" it.

I really didn't have much to do with her for the first year. Then she was assigned as my VT. I thought - Okay, Father, guess you want me to learn humility along with patience huh?

After the third visit I completely changed my view about her. She is a nice woman, she knows a lot - and she readily admits that she DOESN'T know everything and she is willing to learn more. From book learning, to physical things, to spiritual things.

We have given each other side aches from laughing as we jointly related our experiences of installing and re-installing toilets! Kitchen sink faucets, shower curtains, light fixtures.

She IS a kindred soul - do it wrong the first time, then shake your head, undo it and reinstall the correct way. Gee, isn't that how you learn to do it?

We both about wet ourselves when we said in unison Can you just see us putting up wall paper together -( FYI neither one of us has done this, she wants to wallpaper her bedroom and I volunteered to help her.) She could well end up with two walls with this chubby human lump under the paper! One shaped like me and one shaped like her!

After lunch I went to Wal Mart to get some ornaments. I am always at a loss at what to get my co-workers. Two years ago I put together a place setting: Plate, soup/salad bowl, cup, knife, fork and spoon for each person to keep at work to eat on. We ALL hate plastic flatware and paper cups/plates to eat with-off of. Last year I gave every one a Christmas stuffed animal. One of my co-workers gave everyone a cup with hot chocolate packets stuffed in them. We have more cups there at work than we have cupboard space! Another worker gave us all these square, clear acyclic paper weights that has something etched inside - mine is a butterfly (I love it!)

Talked with Husband this morning to see if he had any suggestions - as I was thinking out loud - he asked me about the three ornaments that he found in a box on the bookshelf. They were left overs from when I was in the Primary Presidency back in Oregon. We started a tradition where the Primary Presidency gave each child an ornament each year. Sometimes the ornaments were all alike, like apples. Or similar-alike= gingerbread cookies, or snow toys = sleds, skies, snowman, etc. We made sure there was enough blank surface to hand write their name, year and Love From Your Primary Presidency on them in gold or silver paint pen.

Aha - I jumped up from my chair, gave my Husband a big Christmas Kiss and thanked him for the suggestion. I would get my co-workers ornaments from now on.

Wal Mart really does have the best selection of individual ornaments. I got the bisque looking ones. Bell, Angel, Snowflake, Wreath, Dove and Star. I didn't write on them. I just wrapped them up in a piece of tissue paper (like they were a sandwich ), then put them in a little gift bag stuffed with white, green, and red shredded paper. The ornaments cost $1.97 each. The little bags cost $0.50 each, the shredded paper cost $2.97 a bag and I got 4 bags - have 2 1/2 bags left!I just spent $3.21 per gift!

I went to KMart looking for boxed cards that were cheap. Didn't have any! BUT I did find long sleeved pull over shirts with a breast pocket in 4X for Husband. Bought three of them (they were 40% off) and got a Polo shirt, short sleeve with breast pocket of 50% off!!

Then I found a knit hat w/ matching neck scarf in 100% acrylic for Mom and SIL. Got Mom blue with blue knit gloves. Now SIL can't wear Mom's gloves. That really pissed me off royally when I saw SIL wearing the gloves I sent Mom for Christmas last year and Mom going bare handed. Mom's hands were so cold they made mine ache when I held them. I took SIL's hands and pulled the gloves off and put them on Mom. (Sometimes I am like a storm- I barge forward and do what I deem is the correct thing to do and to H3LL with Political Correctness or Polite Manners)

I got SIL a knitted hat and matching scarf too - hers is tan, like dog poo. No gloves though. I bought BIL a pair of fleece gloves. They are all nestled in Christmas tissue paper set in Christmas boxes, waiting for husband to get home and take a look before I tape the boxes shut (the items are a bit much for the boxes) and then put them all in a larger box to ship to them.

So I get home, run to the bathroom, then unload the car. I immediately "wrap" the gifts, then toss all the trash ( bags, hangers, price tags-not from hubby's shirts though, just in case they are not the right size, etc.)

Go to the bathroom once again, and then go into the 'Puter room' to get the box to ship the other boxes in, and that is when I see this paper on my office chair. Generally this means that husband has paid a bill on-line and he gives me the copy to enter into Quicken. I look at it and it is - - - - - - - - - - - - a receipt for a new computer. A Dell Inspiron 530s. with a 19 inch Widescreen FLAT Panel Monitor - - - WooooHoooo!!! He even bought me a new ergonomic keyboard!! Mine keeps doing strange, weird, odd things. This one is a Goldtouch Adjustable http://search.dell.com/results.aspx?s=gen&...ard&cat=all

Am I a lucky girl or what?? My computer has been going out on me bit by bit. My CD part no longer will work. It is so frustrating - It is a royal pain to back up my Quicken. Have to do it with my stick then transfer that to husbands computer - we installed the same Quicken on his so we could do this. Have WAY too much data to risk losing any of it!

Husband wants a laptop -So he was going to give me his computer only I don't want his computer - I have never had a new computer - always got a second or fourth hand one. I told him to get his laptop and I would wait until my birthday in June for a new puter.

That is totally awesome!!!!!!!!!! :) Enjoy it when you get it!

Thanks CourtneyP -

My current computer is acting up- doing a semi-crash if you will. IF there is such a thing. As I type its guts are hanging out on my desk- the CD drive went belly-up and then the machine would not close or open. So husband opened it up and put in a cd drive from our spare parts computer.

Tomorrow while I am at work and he is home on his day off, he is going to uplaod everything on my computer to the Dell site. He bought me a new Dell and got the one time upload thing. Then Dell will download all of that into my new computer. After we get the computer, Husband will download a MS Office Standard upgrade so that I will have the 2007 Word, Excell and Outlook. That way I will have some experience with them before my office goes to it in Feb of 2008.

He is able to get all of the MS software at big discounts through his job  We are getting the computer at about 45% off, the software is 65% off- Brag-Brag-Brag. (Now watch, my computer will totally crash tonight and we won't get all the data off of it) Soooo, I am going to back up Quicken on my Attache as soon as I finish this post. Then I will pass it to Husband and he can load it onto his copy of Quicken. I have 3 years worth of our bookkeeping that I DO NOT want to lose, and I just spent 4 hours balancing all of our accounts. I DO NOT want to duplicate that work!

OH, I can hardly wait for it to come. New 'Puter and new FLAT screen monitor. I have one at work and I just love it.
