FigBearingThistle Posted March 6, 2008 Report Posted March 6, 2008 Hi all, I'm new here and am not knowledgeable about lds. I was questioning the usual theory of hell and the explanation of blasphemy of holy spirit which is described as a unforgivable sin. I can't believe our father god will put us in hell whatsoever, so I'm here to ask for your help on it, what's your explanation of hell, salvation, and unforgivable sin. Thanks.Vikier,According to my understanding of LDS doctrine, Hell a condition and place where the wicked go after death and before the resurrection, while they await the judgement and resurrection. When Christ returns for His 2nd Coming, the 1st resurrection will begin, wherein the righteous will be resurrected and judged. Christ will reign for 1000 years (millenium) during which time the wicked will suffer in hell awaiting their own resurrection and judgement. At the end of the millenium, the wicked in hell will have repented of their sins, and will be washed clean by the atoning Blood of Jesus Christ, and after being judged according to their deeds in life, will also be saved, but in the lowest of the 3 heavens (The Telestial Kingdom), away from the presence of God the Father, and His Son. So, depending on the context of the conversation, people do not remain in hell forever, according to LDS doctrine. There is, however a condition of "outer darkness" which continues on forever. This is a place intended for those who reject Jesus Christ as their Savior after having an absolute knowledge that he is the Savior. This is the place for those who want nothing to do with Jesus Christ and his atonement. This is the place for those who commit the unpardonable sin. But to commit this sin, you would probably have to have seen the Savior, and had a perfect knowledge of him and what He has done for you, and then reject him. Quote
cgrantreed Posted March 6, 2008 Report Posted March 6, 2008 "Hell" is also a condition that we create in our lives too, not just after death. The scriptures talk about hell being the results of our choices and believe you me, I have experienced it. Its a self inflicted wound that takes God to cleanse it for us. If you have ever done something that racked your soul, you know what HELL I am talking about. It, though seemingly permanent at the time, goes away with repentance. Thank heavens for that...Just thought I'd throw MHO in there:DTREE... Don't sweat the small stuff. God knows that you were angry and even the Saints do that. Its rude and improper and it requires asking God for forgiveness but Satan likes to bring on guilt even though you have been forgiven just to make you worry. God won't torment you with it if you have asked him for release.Grant Quote
