Hey guys thanks for answering my questions so far, just a few other that maybe you can help me understand. I know that the LDS believe God is not spirit, correct? If it's correct I will continue. If God is man or has flesh rather, then wouldn't it contradict the teachings of Christ?

Jesus says in John 4:24:

"God is Spirit, and those who worship Him must worship in spirit and truth.”

Jesus also said in LUke 24:39:

"Behold my hands and my feet, that it is I myself: handle me, and see; for a spirit hath not flesh and bones, as ye see Me have."

Yes it is correct that we believe God is a personage of flesh and bones. The first scripture you mentioned says God is Spirit, NOT God is a Spirit. Now we believe the Bible to be the word of God as far as it is translated correctly. Now I am not saying that this scripture wasn't written correctly but it is possible that prophets of old times may have not even fully understood the true nature of God. For example there is a prophet named Jared in the Book of Mormon (Book of Ether to be specific) that saw the hand of God and he was amazed that God had a body of flesh and bones. This is all just speculative of course. Noone knows the true answers save God.

As for the second scripture, in my opinion it just reinforces the idea that God and Jesus have a physical, tangible body.

Lets find a common ground. Sense this is a one way conversation (right now it is, until you respond). In the LDS church we believe that before this earth life we lived at spirits in what we call Pre-mortal life. This is where we learned from our Heavenly Father things that he had to teach us. But after we had progressed as far as possible, the second phase of a test came for us. That was getting sent to Earth. Now our Spirit would be housed in a body.

To kind of jump a head. As I assume you know, through the fall of Adam and Eve, death entered the world. Through Jesus Christ, and his power over death (and being resurrected) we now all can have our body and spirit be resurrected and join together, never to be separated again! That’s the Power of Christ!

"God is Spirit, and those who worship Him must worship in spirit and truth.”

The biggest test of this life is really to overcome our flesh or what we call in the LDS church our Natural man. This fallen man really just thinks of its self. But because we have this spirit inside of us, we need to let the spirit be more in control and make choices based of that.

I do believe God is Spirit, but that is not to say that is all He is!

1. I do believe that I was created after the image of God. Does a spirit have an image?

2. In Act’s 7:56 Stephen, as he is being stoned, Sees God and Christ. It does show that there were two persons here.

3. Joseph Smith, as he was struggling to know the truth, and Prayed about which church to join, Saw Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ. This is the basic place where we gain that knowledge that Heavenly Father (God) has a Body of flesh and bones.

4. Last, and sense I assume the point of your question is to get a better understanding of what the Lds Church teaches. Because Joseph Smith was called as a prophet, and had the power to translated, he went through the bible and corrected some of these errors that have come in through the years. The verse in question now reads “For unto such hath God promised his Spirit. And they who worship him, must worship in spirit and in truth.”

I think this makes a lot more sense.

"Behold my hands and my feet, that it is I myself: handle me, and see; for a spirit hath not flesh and bones, as ye see Me have."

I don’t know what your problem is with this verse (unless its just that it doesn’t agree with the other one). But this is what we believe. That Jesus Christ did rise of the dead, that he has a body of Flesh and bones. That his body and spirit are together. We assume our Heavenly Father’s body is in some similar way.

To assume that we came to earth to get a body. That Christ came to overcome death. And for us to not use the gift of the Resurrection seems absurd to me.
