Gaea Posted March 17, 2008 Report Posted March 17, 2008 A Few Years Ago I Came Across Information in a 1900s ensiclopedia. It Tells That The Spiral Symbol Represents Death Or The Decent Into Hell. I Have Come Across the Symbol Many Times, In Builings, In Architecture And In Other Ordanisations. Does religion specify That The Spiral Means Death. Quote
rameumptom Posted March 17, 2008 Report Posted March 17, 2008 Usually the spiral means a descent or ascent. If it is a descent, it is normally associated with the Underworld, which isn't necessarily hell. In LDS thought, we believe that God works through "eternal rounds," which would be similar to an ascending spiral. Eternal rounds signify patterns. For example, as I develop faith in Christ and through that faith repent and show greater obedience, Christ sends a greater portion of His Holy Spirit to guide me. This increases my faith, which then gives me a greater resolve to repent and obey, leading to more of the Spirit's guidance in my life. The cycle continues in this manner until a person is perfected in Christ, moving from grace to grace, receiving grace for grace (D&C 93). Quote
WillowTheWhisp Posted March 17, 2008 Report Posted March 17, 2008 I'm not aware of any specific significance in the LDS church but to a pagan celtic friend of mine it symbolises life and learning and growth and development. When used on a burial site it implies life after death or the fact that the end of the physical body is not an end of the person's life. Quote
