My husband works during the day, while I am home with her and then I work overnight while he is home with her. -
Going back to school a waste of time and money?
Dolly-Mama replied to Dolly-Mama's topic in Advice Board
Thank you all for your great ideas!! Getting books from the library is a fantastic idea that I never even thought of! I was considering taking one class at a time online anyway if I did do it. I definitely have more time for reading than I do to take a class, in the little time I do have. :) Thanks so much!! -
I have been, for a while now, playing with the idea of going back to school. I already have an associate's degree and a decent job but not much time to speak of seeing as how I have a husband, 9 month old daughter and a full time job. I have always been very interested in psycology. Everything about it fascinates me. I would love to learn more about it. I was just looking at online classes for it to see what the cost was. But here is the thing. I don't know that I ever plan on doing anything with this. I don't really want a job in psycology, I just want to learn more about it. I know that bettering yourself is never a bad thing, but I don't know if this would just become a time and money sync. I already don't feel like I have enough time to do the things that I like now... Who knows when I would have the time to study. Any thoughts??

Should we take away our 19-year-old's phone and car?
Dolly-Mama replied to mutant's topic in Parenting
While I see the point of taking her phone away as a consequence of her actions because you pay for it, I think that is probably one of the worst things you can do. That phone is her life line to you. Do what you will with the car, but what happens if something happens between her and this boyfriend that she isnt comfortable with or decides to leave and is without a car, with the rapid disappearance of payphones I would want her to have that phone if she ever needed me, hopefully heading off any other bad decisions she could make. -

Just as a side note and maybe to calm a couple of your fears... I work as a vet tech, therefore am around many of the same chemicals and gasses and things that you would be, I worked all through my pregnancy and they didn't even need to boot me to the receptionist area. Not that I am saying get pregnant while you are in school or anything, just that things can be arranged so it isn't as dangerous as it seems. -
Toys only occupy her for a short time, and so does sitting on her own or really sitting in general. What she wants is for someone to walk around with her, but even that only lasts a little while. I have a hard time motivating to go to church if I don't feel I am getting a benefit from it. I want to feel spiritual and the feeling of the spirit around me. I want to enjoy or really even take the sacrament and be able to reflect on what it means to me. I have been unable to do that lately so I have had a hard time not just saying "forget it, it isn't worth the aggravation."

Hello Ladies, I have been having a lot of trouble with my testimony lately. While I believe in the truth of the church, I believe it because it makes sense and not because I have a secure feeling of it. I have been struggling with going to church lately, which I am sure is part of these feelings. I haven't been going because I have a six month old daughter who refuses to be a good girl while we are at church. So while I deal with her, I am unable to sit through sacrament and don't get through much of my classes. I feel like I am not getting any benefit from going to church, only more aggravation and frustration. I don't feel the spirit while I am there, only anger toward my baby who is still just a baby. It is hard not to be envious of those who have babies who sleep through church. Lately I don't even want to go, I don't want to deal with what goes on. I haven't been to church for the last 4-5 weeks. I have been keeping up with my visiting teaching, though. And that 45 min to an hour, once per month is the only relief I have, the only time I feel the spirit and really spiritual at all. Also, my husband has been having motivation problems with going as well. I feel I am failing him because I am unable to be his motivation, to be what he needs from his wife in this situation. If anyone has any advice, please help!! I want to feel secure in my testimony again, and be an active church member... I want us both to be active church members for the spiritual health of ourselves as well as our family. -Dolly-Mama

My problem with hospitals is that it feels to me they want to rush you through what your body should be given time to work through on its own. I know that if they decide that you are not dialating quickly enought they will start drugs to make it happen faster. I don't want this. If I am going to give birth naturally, I want my body to be able to do what needs to be done. Women were having babies for thousands of years with use of midwifes and alone before it was decided it needed to be done in a hospital. Laying on your back is not the optimal way to give birth, doctors have you do it this way to make it easier for them. A more natural position is squatting. I would of course have a midwife or doula, and go to a birthing center so if a problem was suspected a hospital would not be far away. The only reason I was in a hospital for the birth of my daughter was because I had to have a C-section because she was in a breech position. I would definitly want the medicine ball!! Sorry for hijacking the thread

I have been considering this if and when we decide to have a second baby. I'm a little scared to not have a doctor near in case something goes wrong though... How did you deal with that?

Just checking on all you mommies due recently, wondering how everything went!! My daughter is 6 1/2 months now.... I miss the tiny baby days already.

Ah yes, I am sure Heavenly Father made them that way so that we fall in love and procreate instead of standing back to laugh... LOL J/k guys

My father recently told me of a story when he was in high school and getting together with his friends. He lived in Colorado and the big amphitheatre out there is called Red Rocks. It is an outdoor facility with a lot of stairs. There is no gate stopping anyone from going there so you can go there pretty much whenever you want. Anyway, he and his friends would take "Big Wheels" (where they aquired these, I have no idea) and ride them down the stairs to the bottom. Think... 5 eighteen year old guys riding big wheels down about 200 stairs.... Ah the mental image that comes with that. How they came up with this I will never know. Being female I don't have the ability.

Unix and I have been having a habitual problem of over extending our budget. I am tired of trying to look the other way and want to fix the problem instead of trying go through damage control every 2 months. We are pretty behind on bills, and barely scraping by. I was wondering if you guys have any ideas on how not only to set up a budget but more importantly sticking to it. I have already thought of a couple ideas on how to help myself keep track and I am going to get it all set up this weekend when I have a free minute from the baby. Here is what I have so far. 1. I got an organizer to put my bills in and little tabs to label what day of the month they are due. 2. I got a dry erase board with a calender on it to mark what days bills are due on and also other things that need to be done. 3. I got the starter edition of Quicken to set up a budget and keep track of what is going on in the bank account. If any of you have any other ideas I would greatly appreciate them and if any one knows how to make two people who like to order out and buy video games stick to our budget please please tell us!

Turns out my baby has reflux and her doctor gave us medication for it and it seems to be doing the trick. Thanks to all for your advice!!

I don't know the answer to this myself, I guess they feel wet. Some of the others that look like diapers called Pull-ups have colors on the outside that show up when they are wet.

I just had my daughter in April and her name is Mackenzie Elaine. Mackenzie because we just like the name and Elaine after my grandmother that has made a significant influence in my life. I like the name Nephi. I would do it.

I called and made an appointment for her already. I am nervous about all those things, I know what can happen to animals when they are left untreated. I am a vet tech.:)
-
I usually start her bedtime routine between 8:30 and 9:00pm depending on when we have dinner and all that. I follow her to bed usually around 10:00 when I have to work the next day and closer to 11:00 when I don't. I am out like a light until she wakes up the first time but don't sleep well after that. Sometimes she plays like she's a new born again and likes to wake up every 2 hours. We usually wake up any time between 7:30 and 9:00am but we usually hang out and cuddle for an hour after.

We tried this before when she was having gas and colic problems. We have found Gripe Water to be much more effective.
