    Plus they teamed with people who have been around the Broadway musical scene for a long time.

    When it first came out, KUER interviewed various Mormon theater experts and one who lives in NYC said it was a lock to win the Tony. One reason: yeah, it's pretty good. Another: weak competition right now.

    PS. One of those interviewed said the musical was making him re-examine his decision to leave the church. So, missionary credit for Parker and Stone?

    I thought it was written in Middle English? Or is it just that most modern translations use Middle English? It's been awhile.

    Middle English is Chaucer and that gang. Old English is usually called Anglo Saxon (at least it was at BYU when I took it). Case for nouns, verb declensions you can't believe (I invented a slide rule to parse them), limited vocabulary compared to either Middle or Modern English. Modern translations use Modern English but usually the old verse system that depends on alliteration and stresses rather than rhyme and syllables.

    And don't forget those kennings!

    I'm bi-polar and I have some close bi-polar friends and relatives and other bi-polar friends of friends.

    First (maybe only) point. Even if you get a solid diagnosis of bi-polar disorder, there is a HUGE variety of conditions. To start with, the DSM recognizes two types (I'm type 2). But even within types, there is still an incredible variation. Hope you don't have it, but even if you do, I have to tell you that you'll pretty much have to find your own way. The experiences and suggestions of others may have very little bearing on your case.

    (Minor point: people with this condition are very resistant to the idea of medication, but when I see people going without, they invariably wind up in a worse place. On the other hand, finding an effective medication is often very difficult. In my case, any medication is good only for a limited time.)

    (Other point(er): If you are so diagnosed, might not be a bad idea to read Jamison.)

    It seems to me that Jesus can survive any sincere translation into another frame of reference. What he couldn't survive was being shoved into the middle of the Roman State religion.

    Not that long ago, when you said you were from Utah, everyone asked you if you were a Mormon. When I was getting out of the Navy in the late 60s, I used to tell people "No" if I thought they were Mormons and "Yes" if I thought they weren't. Don't know if that was hostile or not but going the other way seemed to me then to be ducking a fight.

    I've heard good things about The Guild. If I recall correctly, it's a web series, so it's only available online, right?

    Nope. You can get the earlier seasons as DVDs from Netflix. (Let's see if I can come up with a link.) In fact, you can get all four seasons on DVD. First three seasons you can stream on Netflix (one stream per season; no repeating titles or credits). Fourth season is "Very long wait" for the DVD, so I watched it on-line at the official site.

    So, I'm a fan. Where were the Felicia Days (double major in Math and Violin Performance) when I was getting my degree in English with double minors in Math and Physics? Fifty years too late.:(

    You have my sympathy and I think (and hope) you'll get by this particular issue. It really doesn't make any real effective difference who does what (I'm sure you know that). Please your kid, please yourself, please your ex- -- none of this has anything to do with it, really.

    But, IMHO, at some time, as disturbing and troubling as it may turn out to be, you've got to tell your ex to bug off.

    You have to travel for the Rapture? Hey, it's just straight up! If you want straighter up you should go to Missouri (LDS) or Jerusalem (everyone else).

    But once you're airborne, what the heck?
