  1. 1. Name the one sport in which neither the spectators nor the participants know the score or the leader until the contest ends.

    Boxing.

    4. What fruit has its seeds on the outside?

    Strawberries

    5. In many liquor stores, you can buy pear brandy, with a real pear inside the bottle. The pear is whole and ripe, and the bottle is genuine; it hasn't been cut in any way. How did the pear get inside the bottle?

A seed is placed in the bottle and the pear grows inside.

    6. Only three words in standard English begin with the letters ' dw' and they are all common words. Name two of them.

    Dwarf, dwindle, dwell.

    7. There are 14 punctuation marks in English grammar. Can you name at least half of them?

Quotes, apostrophe, braces, brackets, question mark, exclamation point, comma, period, colon, semi-colon, ellipse.

    9. Name 6 or more things that you can wear on your feet beginning with the letter 'S.'

Socks, shoes, sandals, slippers, snowshoes, sneakers.

  2. I mean really. Not just type out LOL in response to something. What makes you literally laugh out loud?

    Come on, share it!

Sometimes when my two-year-old trips, I laugh. I think that probably makes me a less-than-stellar mom. I'm okay with that. A laughing mom is usually a happy good mom.

Also, this made me laugh today:

  3. I have a pearl ring--it's a white and black pearl ring with diamonds. Not sure what you mean "holds up well", but I've had it for years. I absolutely adore it.

    Black pearls? Like Tahitian??

Trust me, I'm not in love with diamonds. Marketing has done a bang up job of making a rather unremarkable looking colorless gemstone into being synonymous with marriage and love. If it was up to me my wife's future wedding ring wouldn't have any diamond on it. I suppose it is up to me but I can pick my battles a little better than that. :)

I agree that the diamond is generally rather unremarkable. Colored diamonds are entrancing, though. My ring actually isn't a diamond. At least, not primarily. I have a round cut center stone that is flanked by four tiny baguettes on either side. The baguettes are diamonds, but the center one only looks like a diamond.

My then-fiance (now-husband) refused to go into significant debt for a ring. Pretty much he thought that the ring was a silly thing in the first place, but was wise enough to not try to persuade me away from it. I don't have lavish taste, but I don't like the look of a simple solitaire, but I still wanted a center stone larger than what he was willing to shell out. So he did some research and came across Moissanite. It looks like a diamond and acts like a diamond. It is comparable in every way to a diamond -- color, clarity, etc. It actually has a higher "fire" level than diamond (that would be the sparkle factor). The only thing that can cut it is a diamond. But it's synthetic and only about a third or so of the cost of a diamond. He tentatively suggested it to me. A few days later, I went with a girlfriend to check some out at a jewelry counter and was quickly satisfied.

No one can tell the difference unless they are a trained jeweler.

Of the many( way too many engagement or other rings I've bought) I think my favorite was the one that didn't have any diamonds but instead used amethysts. I wouldn't have thought about it if she hadn't described the ring she'd dreamed about but it did look really nice....just wish i could have got it back to pawn when things didn't work out lol.

    *sigh* I love amethysts.

  4. Can we get this thread moved into the General Discussion category? There are some posts that really require the laugh button.

From now on when I make a thread or post, if all you're going to say is negative things do NOT say anything at all.

Too bad you don't really get to decide who can and can't post on "your" threads.

Ever since I joined this place I've been criticized on nearly every thread and post I've made whether it be facts being backed up by the scriptures themselves, theories, or even opinions.

    (1) You don't back your statements up with scriptures.

    (2) Theories don't prove anything.

    (3) Opinions are worthless as evidence.

  5. I would think that in cases of ectopic pregnancy, or if the fetus was already dead or not likely to survive long after birth, then those are medical reasons for an abortion. Another medical issue is if the pregnancy would kill the mother who has other children who need her, so she might chose her living children over the fetus.

Official LDS Church stance (emphasis mine):

Church leaders have said that some exceptional circumstances may justify an abortion, such as when pregnancy is the result of incest or rape, when the life or health of the mother is judged by competent medical authority to be in serious jeopardy, or when the fetus is known by competent medical authority to have severe defects that will not allow the baby to survive beyond birth. But even these circumstances do not automatically justify an abortion. Those who face such circumstances should consider abortion only after consulting with their local Church leaders and receiving a confirmation through earnest prayer.

  6. I wish I had that gift. I have a hard time getting through the scriptures because, honestly, they're pretty boring, as books go. If I were a faster reader with better attention, I would love to get a clean (missionary-type) copy of the Book of Mormon each time I read it, and read with a theme, marking only scriptures pertaining to that theme.

  7. Backroads, a lot of people can give you recommendations on their favorite garment fabrics, but I would try talking to a few trusted sisters in your ward/local area. Weather and humidity are big factors in the type of fabric that will be the most comfortable for you.

  8. I use wordpress and I have friends that use typepad

I knew there was another one I couldn't remember -- Typepad.

wordpress has a feature that shares you blog post on facebook automatically. That's probably a popular feature now on most blog platforms.

Facebook will do it for you, regardless of your platform. I import mine using Networked Blogs, which is a Facebook app.

  9. I disagree with the idea that a fast done properly shouldn't make us hungry. Part of the point of fasting is that it hurts a little. It's not sacrifice if it doesn't create a lack. I remember hearing a talk several years ago by Elder Condie, in which he said, about fasting, "Our emptiness will provide more room for the fulness of the gospel. The hollowing precedes the hallowing."

  10. ...but I feel that the decision to share your testimony is a personal one and not to be decided upon by someone else .

I completely agree with this. I very rarely share my testimony in Sacrament meeting. I have no problem with my testimony or with public speaking -- I just don't like to do it extemporaneously like that. Today however, I did share my testimony. Last week was ward conference, and the stake YW presidency (I'm the ward YW president) asked me if I was sharing my testimony with my girls at every opportunity. I know that I'm not, and I felt prompted today to do so. It turns out that nine of my eleven girls were present and heard me. I was glad that I followed the prompting today, though I don't know that I'll be making it a fast and testimony meeting habit.

  11. I do have the tall medium on right now that I already opened and it's interesting. The bottom hem on the top is identical to the hem found on the bottoms, so it doesn't roll like it typically would had this been a cotton or drisilque top, which I love because I am not a fan of tucking in my tops into my bottoms, I personally like to overlap them.

It barely feels like I'm wearing the top, it's pretty lightweight and smooth. Very comfortable. And like the bottoms, it is a little bit more form fitting all around. The shoulders on the one I'm currently wearing are a little big, but I imagine when I get around to getting the proper size that the shoulders and the sleeves will actually stay in place. For whatever reason, my cotton tops tend to roll and bunch up under my shirts, but I'm crossing my fingers that isn't the case with the carinessa top. ;)

Okay, so here's what I want to know. I wear my bra under my garment top. My garment goes right next to my shirt. Does the Carinessa II top do it's own thing, or does it cling nicely to your shirt/sweater/blouse/etc?
