  1. I've heard it explained that hoarding is when supplies are in short supply and someone purchases mass amounts that prevents others from getting any. Buying in bulk when supplies are in good supply (like they are now) is just simply that: buying in bulk. In older days those with gardens bottled the produce from their gardens and fruit trees. Since they had scores of bottled food in their root cellar would that be considered hoarding? Certainly not! It was just what you did to assure you had food through the winter. The best thing we can do is to get our friends, family and neighbors to start buying in bulk. Then none of us go hungry.
  2. A real easy way to start is to make a 2-week menu plan for all three meals. Plan meals you are already eating. Then make a shopping list of each item you'd need to complete each meal. To have a 3-month storage of every foods like the churches teaches us, all you do is multiply each meal by the number of times you'd eat it in 3 months. For example: if you eat spaghetti once a week, you'd need 12 cans of sauce, 12 packages of pasta for 3 months.
  3. My non-LDS neighbor told me she has stopped using credit and debit cards to purchase her food, so it can't be tracked. She uses only cash. Good idea I think, especially if you're buying in bulk and spending a lot of money.
  4. DeborahC, When i click on the blue link I keep getting a warning message that says I don't have permission to use that feature. Would it be possible for you to post the instructions on this forum? Thanks very, very much!!!!!
  5. I ordered the popcorn in 50 lb. bags from Walton Feed out of Idaho. But you could use the 2 lb. bags from the grocery store. I got about 8+ gallons of popcorn from each 50 lb. bag, and I ordered 3.
  6. DeborahC, what forum were you talking about joining? Is there a way to get the directions for the candles you made - I love the photo! Debi
  7. I've been looking at my empty cans from soup, veggies, tuna fish, etc., sitting in my recycle bin wondering if it's possible to recycle them into candles. I have some parawax on hand, and am wondering if I can make a wick and just pour melted parawax into the cans. Would that work? Debi
  8. I use popcorn, and just canned 24 cans of popcorn! I grind it in my wheat grinder to use in making cornbread, not even thinking that I should use dent corn. However, I just ordered 50 lbs. of dent corn, and am anxious to grind it and make into cornbread and see the difference. I sometimes use whole wheat and popcorn in making the cornbread and my kids don't even notice a difference!
  9. After opening a #10 can, could I put my dehydrated eggs in canning jars and then use my foodsaver jar sealer to seal the bottles, and then just put on my pantry shelves? Thanks, Debi
