  1. So my wife and I have been meeting with the missionaries for a few weeks now and attending Sacrament and Sunday School. It's going well! I'm curious, though. A lot of things say/suggest that we'll be meeting with the Missionaries for a while and then eventually, we'll be baptized if we so choose. When's that eventually usually? Do the Missionaries come over for a few weeks, months, years?
  2. You forgot to address the Genesis 1 and 2 contradiction (the first one in the Bible, and mentioned on the other thread). There's a possible answer here: Genesis contradictions?
  3. You don't have to jump between testaments or books to find possible contradiction. Many people see Genesis 1 and Genesis 2 as contradictory.
  4. Interesting stuff. Etymology is fun. Genesis 3:16 says "To the woman he said, 'I will greatly increase your pains in childbearing; with pain you will give birth to children. Your desire will be for your husband, and he will rule over you.'" Which seems to suggest reproduction was possible before, but in a very different way. The pains were increased, meaning they were less before...suggesting they existed before?
  5. Thanks. That's really interesting. Be fruitful is "to bear fruit -- bear, bring forth (fruit), (be, cause to be, make) fruitful, grow, increase..." Multiply is "to increase (in whatever respect)and replenish." None of that actually mentions sexual reproduction to produce infant humans.
  6. I'm familiar with the phrase from Genesis 1:28, but I'm just curious whether it is really synonymous with "reproduce by giving birth to children." The Hebrew I found for Genesis 1:28 is But I have no idea what those words are! Thanks. This talk looks very interessting.
  7. The phrase "be fruitful and multiply" keeps getting thrown around as synonymous with "reproduce." But what is that phrase actually a translation of? What were the original words? (I'm really just curious, not trying to prove any point about anything.)
  8. 1958 just seems boring because it is now in the past. But it was just as full of looming disasters, world diplomatic struggles, and celebrity gossip: 1958 - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia.
  9. Not yet. I'm thinking our contact info must have been lost somehow. That Youtube video you sent me put me much more at ease about going in fresh without having spoken to someone first, as I now know somewhat what to expect. Total sidenote, but it's nice to know that when we go to Church this Sunday, we won't be getting the usual new-church greeting of "Oh, hello. Are you new? You know we have childcare available" when we bring our 1 and 3 year old into the service with us.
  10. Actually, the plan has been to go next Sunday (2/14) for the first time. My grandfather died a couple of weeks ago, and this Sunday (2/7) was the only time the entire family could all get together to go through his house and decide who wants/gets various heirlooms. I miss my Grandfather quite a lot. He was a good guy. I'm fully planning to go next Sunday, though. Hopefully we'll have a good experience. Still haven't seen the Missionaries yet, but we'll go in "blind" so to speak and put our trust in God. I'll let you know how it goes.
  11. Hi, I'm currently a non-Mormon living in Indiana who is reading the Book of Mormon and has become interested in possibly joining the Church with my family. Came on the boards to learn more about Mormonism and meet Church members.
