  1. Theres nothing selfish about it. Dont worry. As far as your situation is concerned: I would advise you to keep studying all you can. Ask questions here and read about the church on LDS.org and Mormon.org. Most importantly, pray for help. Pray that the Lord will soften your parents hearts that they will be able to understand your feelings. And be patient. It might not be for a long time, but I promise that you WILL, one day, receive the opportunity to be baptized and join the LDS church. God knows you personally and loves you. He knows your intentions and you will be blessed for your desires, even if you cannot take action for many more years. If I may ask, how did you come to find the LDS church? What caused you to have the desire to join? (You dont have to answer if you dont want to. And if you would prefer to PM me, or email me, that would be perfectly fine) Good luck and God bless
  2. Like Generally_Me said, its ALWAYS best to stay as far away from the line as possible. How do you know when you're getting close to the line? Simply rely on the Holy Ghost to direct and guide you. I think there definitely is a specific line between right and wrong, but there is also a lot of grey in the middle. Would it be a good thing to only watch church produced movies? Sure, but does God really care if we refuse to watch G rated movies? I really don't think so. Does he care if we watch R rated movies or not? He absolutely does as several latter day prophets have taught us. In short we should not watch any R rated material (and worse, obviously) and should be cautious about PG-13 material. Remember that ALL things can be brought before the Lord in prayer. If you are questioning whether or not something is decent enough to expose yourself to, just ask the Lord. If you pray in faith, He WILL guide you through the power of the Holy Ghost. A good rule of thumb is to ask yourself if you would feel comfortable going into the temple after viewing or listening to the material in question.
  3. To the world having a serious girlfriend is a sort of right of passage for most young men. Growing up it was always something that I felt like I needed to do to be accepted. Now that I am an RM I see things completely differently. Your time as a youth in the church is VERY short compared to the time you will spend with your eternal companion. You have no need of looking for one quite yet. Right now you need to have fun with friends in groups. Find out what qualities you are drawn to in women and what aspects you appreciate the most. Having a steady girlfriend will limit you in this matter. Serving a full time mission will actually teach you even more what you are looking for in an eternal companion as you observe traits and behaviors of your temporary mission companions. Then, when you return home from your mission (or reach an approximately the same age if not going) you will begin searching for the one that most closely fits the qualities you are looking for. I met several girls from the time I turned 14 and started attending stake dances to the time I left on my mission that I could have sworn I was going to marry one day. Almost every one of them are long gone or are already married to someone else. Trust me, you dont need to start looking for someone to marry for a long time and frankly you dont need to even think about it yet (though, inevitably, it will more than likely cross your mind). Just have fun, remember your standards and treat women with the most respect you can. Dont worry about everything else involved in relationships for a few more years.
  4. I agree with Stormwitch. We dont know all the facts so assuming Lucifer cannot and has never loved is really a form of judgment. When it comes down to it, he is still our brother. We need not respect him and SHOULD not follow his false teachings, but should WE hold a form of unconditional LOVE towards HIM? The Saviour taught that we must love our enemies in Matthew 5:43-44, "Ye have heard that it hath been said, though shalt love thy neighbor, and hate thine enemy. But I say unto you, Love your enemy, bless them that curse you, do good to them that hate you, and pray for them which despitefully use you and persecute you." This does not describe anyone more accurately than it does the Adversary. It does not matter whether he can love or not. What matters is that WE unconditionally love all beings, including Satan. Any further views on this?
