  1. I've always wanted to live in the Addams Family house!!! Get It!!!
  2. Hey Everyone! I just have a question involving clothing and modesty... I understand no clevage bearing, belly showing, or micro-minis, but what's wrong with shoulders? I've never heard anyone anyone say they couldn't stop thinking about someone's shoulders.
  3. I live in Michigan and they are pretty common here too, actually my best friend makes them whenever we have a bbq. In Michigan they are called Party Potatoes though. I thought Mormons were supposed to be more upbeat? Lol!
  4. As a wise 22 year old with no children of my own (lol) I would like to make a comment on how I was raised. I was raised by a single mother who blended the friendship and the authoritative parenting methods. I had to do chores and my homework first but I was always able to have friends over and was allowed other freedoms that many kids my age weren't allowed to do. My mom was always letting me do adventerous things in highschool like coloring my hair purple but that was reward for staying on the honor roll. Having so much freedom and responsability made me want to get a job right away, so I got my first job at 16 but I had to keep my grades up or I would have to quit. She has also always let rmake my own mistakes, like when I got into major credit card debt right out of high school. I asked for money but she helped me a different way, by making a budget to help me pay off the cards and teaching me a valuable lesson. I think my mom always making me feel like a grown-up and treating me like a grown-up has given me a very strong work ethic and is the reason I am such an independent person today.
  5. Thank you for the replies everyone! I knew it would be a better idea asking on here. Whenever I found something online about it, it was either a bunch of anti-stuff or it was legit but it was worded so confusing I couldn't really understand. Thanks for everything!
  6. Hey Everyone, I swear I am not a troll trying to stir stuff up. I'm just wondering if anyone could explain to me how prophets are chosen in the church currently. In the Bible God directly singles some one out and speaks to them with whatever message he wants to convey. As far as I know (I'm an investigator and not a member) even Joseph Smith was contacted by someone on God's behalf. From what I understand the makeup of the church leaders is set in a hierarchy with the prophet being the leader. So who picks the prophet? I know this is probably going to require a long drawn out answer so links would be very much appreciated if it's easier for anyone answering. Thanks a million!
  7. Carl62: I have 7 tattoos so far. Pink Bows on the backs of my calves (they look like the bows on the tops of presents) they symbolize what a gift my legs are since I had a horrible knee surgery 2 years ago that left me bed ridden for about 4 months. Pink scissors on my right forearm because I'm a hairstylist. I also have another hair themed tattoo taking up the whole top part of my right arm. I have a set of cherries on my shoulders and finally a tribal heart on my lower back. The only thing shocking about them is how big they are. I love them because they are how I express myself. I dont wear jewelry or flashy clothes. I just have tattoos and crazy hair, other than that I am a very traditional wholesome person.
  8. Thank you again everyone for all of your kind words. You have no idea how much this has been on my mind. I really want to visit my local ward to check it out, but I have this fear that I am going to stand out like the girl with the scarlett letter... or maybe girl with the scarlett hair. You have really put me at ease. Thanks
  9. Thanks for the feedback so far everyone! I really appreciate it! I don't mean to be annoying but no one has commented on my bigger issue of being sexually active. Would a guy be freaked out at the fact that I have had two long term sexual partners? I know the law of chastity says you should wait until you are married to have sex, so would a mormon guy have a problem marrying a girl who has had sex before she became a member?
  10. A little background: I have been invistigating the church for a while now. Looking up info online, reading a little bit of the BOM, creeping on lds.net, I still haven't gone to check out my local ward (look at me using the lingo), but I feel like that might be soon to come. One of my worries is that maybe sometime down the line if I decide to join the church I wont be seen as a desirable partner for a nice LDS man. I'm not what you would call a nice "wholesome mormon girl." I am covered with tattoos, I have crazy hair (currently have a bright red mohawk), but I worry the most about my sexual history. I was never promiscuous but I had two very long term relationships that I was sexually active in. I am about to turn 23 by the way. I have no problems following the law of chastity if I join the church. Sex is not an issue for me. My issue is that because of my past I wont be able to find a nice member to date and eventually marry and have children with. It would sadden me so much because one of the biggest things that made me interested in the church was the emphasis on family and the thing I want most in the world is to be a wife and mother. Am I totally off base with this fear? If you were a twenty-something year old guy could you overlook the tattoos and the past? Thanks
  11. As someone who is just now re-starting her journey with Christ I have questions about the LDS faith and Heaven. I don't mean to offend anyone with these questions I am just wondering... 1. Are Mormons the only ones going to heaven? I understand that you believe that you are the "only true church", so are christians of other christian denominations not going to heaven? Most of what I find says thats not true but I have read otherwise. 2. I understand that you do proxy baptisms for dead relatives? So I could have sex, do drugs, drink, kill someone, be pagan, and live a totally mean horrible life, then my great great granddaughter could convert LDS and do a proxy baptism for me and I would end up in heaven. I know there has to be more to this because it makes no sense to me whatsoever! I am aware that question #2 totally contradicts the question #1. I repeat I in no way mean to offend anyone. I am simply an inquiring mind wishing to get closer to the Lord and checking out all the paths I have stumbled across.
  12. My understanding is that when you have faith and accept Jesus then you are moved by the spirit and strive to do good works. But works alone will not give you salvation. Ghandi no matter how much good he did and no matter how righteous of a life he lived will not go to heaven because he did not have faith in Jesus. I'm not sure how much I personally believe this but I was raised raised in a Christian non-LDS church and this was the general teaching.
  13. You may find this rather shocking and maybe a little stupid but most hairstylists have crazy hair because we are bored and want to try new products. It is totally normal to go to work in the morning see that it's going to be a slow day and just decide on the spot that you and your co-worker want to try that haircut you saw on so and so or there is a new color technique you want to try or both. Thats how I suddenly became a blonde. It was a horribly slow day at work and we wanted to try this new "miracle" bleach, so I went from a fire-engine red head to a platinum to see if this bleach could do what it said without making my hair fall out. It did thankfully! All hairstylists are just human guinea pigs
  14. I was wondering about modesty... I understand that it is to make sure you are properly covered so you dont cause anyone any lustful thoughts but I was also wondering if it also has to do with not drawing any attention to yourself in gereral. Most LDS people I see, along with dressing modestly are a little more on the "plain" side. (I'm very sorry if that statement offends anyone) You know very natural hair colors, no flashy jewelry, and etc. I am a hairstylist and my hair is the main way I express myself. I have had my hair every color under the sun, from black to purple to its current shade of platinum white blonde. So could I dress modestly and still have pink hair? Or is that a no-no?
  15. I'm fully aware now that it isn't really like true LDS at all. It sure did a good job of making me investigate further and see all the good there is in LDS though.
