  1. I pray I will never see what is coming. But my preparations will be here for anyone God leads to find these supplies. Planting fruit and nut trees can feed many people for years to come...long after I am gone. As an older person, I find that many younger people are still wearing blinders. I wish LDS was near me here in florida, I have learned so much! Thank you all for your wisdom and willingness to help.
  2. hi again! :-) what size absorber are you using??? 100 CC??? 500?? 1,000???? size matters. I went with the old saying penny wise and pound foolish. I just use the largest size absorber I can get. Waste of pennies, maybe. But years from now I'll have fresh grain. Most companies were very reluctant to say exactly how many to use for each size container. Claiming that rice leaves smaller air spaces than say beans. I put everything in the mylar bags. just remember that little mice can chew right threw them. That's why I get 55 gallon barrels and put the bags inside them. You can find "recycled" sometimes through local businesses. Just a hint: STORAGE IN A NUTSHELL IS A WONDERFUL BOOK! So good I got 2! I only started one year ago and already I have a years supply....all thanks to LDS....I was overwhelmed at first too...just take small steps and keeping asking questions. It helps us all. linda
  3. hi again I use my vaccuum. I place a stocking over the end. If I am doing flour instead of beans or rice I make sure I put some paper towels over the top of the flour. Leave a few inches at the top of the bag, it's easier than trying to fight with the bag and not suck up all your flour. Extra hands help doing this, but I go to office depot and get those big clips...they are metal so when I iron the bags they won't get damaged. have a wonderful holiday
  4. hello: I have been reading quite a bit and it appears that oxygen and lack of it is the key to longer shelf life, as others have indicated due to oil content (rancidity). I have been taking the bulk honeyvillegrains and repackaging into the large mylar bags WITH an oxygen absorber in it. Then the bags go into large 55 gal barrels. So far so good. i use my iron to close the bags and use 500cc absorbers up to 2,000cc (amazon.com) . I remove as much air as i can then seal. When I look a few hours later the bags collapse down. I hope this helps.
