  1. Can someone explain to me how to discern between true promptings and false promptings? The reason for the question is for the past two weeks, I've known of changes to a presidency and during that time, whenever I'd think about it, I'd get the warm feelings associated with the Spirit so I thought I was being told that I'd be getting a calling. When the day came for the callings to be extended there was nothing for me. The same thing happened to me a few years ago with another calling. So now I'm beginning to think that perhaps the promptings I was feeling were something my subconscious created and really not from the Spirit even though on a conscious level I didn't want the calling because it would consume so much time. Right now, emotionally, I'm angry, frustrated and confused because of the anxiety and stress leading up to the time the callings were extended. To make matters worse, my wife felt that something big was going to happen in our lives and she's going through the same feelings. I know the natural man is an enemy to God and that's what I'm dealing with but I just want to understand why I was getting the promptings and if they were really coming from the Spirit. Thanks
  2. Do what I tell my kids to do when I serve something they don't like and that is to take a "thank you" bite to show appreciation to your host and Heavenly Father. As for the Word of Wisdom, that's a revelation given to us from Heavenly Father so I have no problem explaining to someone my religious beliefs. If you want to really break it down, one affects whether you can carry a temple recommend while the other doesn't.
  3. As I've read through this thread something jumped out at me. The church has stressed the importance of two-deep leadership in organizations from Primary to Young Women and Young Men. Why hasn't this been implemented in Seminary? Just wondering Anyway, getting back to your situation, speak with your Stake President or Bishop. If they try to sweep it under the rug, threaten to take it to the police. Or, if you feel inclined, skip the church leaders and go straight to the police. Think back to the horrible stories of young men being molested by Scout leaders and how some of those events were swept under the rug. Don't let this happen. You are the greatest advocate for your son. Just an FYI, my son (now 16) was being bullied by another young man in our ward several years ago. I finally got fed up with it. Despite caution from ward members to not ruffle feathers, my attitude was, I don't care who I offend. It's my son and I'm protecting him. I called the boy's parents and met with them and their son and laid out the accusations. The boy has not laid a hand on my son since and my son tells me the boy doesn't like me. Quite frankly I don't care. I did what I had to do to protect my son because if I didn't, he said, among other things, that he wasn't going to go back to church.
  4. It's really up to you since all of us have our agency. That being said, the church requires people to work on Sundays in order to broadcast programs like Music and the Spoken Word and General Conference. My son has a friend who works with the lighting and sound department for the church and often has to work on Sundays. Funny, isn't it? :)
  5. If you only had the choice to do one or the other, would you spend money to build your food storage or pay off debt? Thanks! :)
