  1. Yes but where is Coffee/Tea revealed as having anything to do with the Word of Wisdom? I can't find any solid prophetic quotes revealing it as such. Still seems like tradition.
  2. In the wake of the recent use of the word folklore by the church's PR department to describe past practices and policies (regarding blacks & priesthood). I have begun to wonder what *current* practices and policies are likely really just folkloric and not actual doctrine. Does anyone here know if the dietary restriction on Coffee/Tea comes from an actual revelation or is this just an add-on, a passed down tradition, merely folklore? Thank you.
  3. Just when your thread contribution was getting exciting you pulled the rug out.
  4. A careful reading of D&C 89:17 shows that Mild Drinks of Barley and other grains are explicitly listed as a "DO". I tend to agree with my friend that his drinking of Near Beer is ok as per that verse. I just don't understand how to reconcile that with the modern interpretation of "no alcohol". From what I have gathered in the responses it sounds like it's a personal introspective matter. If one believes they are in compliance then they can honestly get the TR.
  5. Someone else brought up as a reason to *not* drink near beer is to avoid the appearance of evil. I don't quite understand that logic because Jesus certainly did not make any attempts to avoid appearance of evil. He was constantly meeting and dining with sinners without a worry about what that might look like. Avoiding appearance of evil seems to me like pridefulness to me.
  6. Someone in this thread mistakenly said that Near Beer only contains 0.05% Alcohol. Sorry, that's not correct you are off by a factor of 10. Near Beers typically contain 0.5% making just a few Near Beers the same as 1 Regular Beer Here's a reference on the topic for your reading pleasure: Low-alcohol beer - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
  7. I prefer BSG inspired "frack"
  8. I can't imagine anyone would ever drink a six-pack of vanilla extract.
  9. I was having a conversation with a Mormon friend who drinks near beer. He says it qualifies as a Mild Drink of Barley. I looked up D&C 89:17 and it certainly looks like it could be read that way. But near beer does contain alcohol typically around 0.5% or more. What say you, is that ok for a Mormon to do and still get a Temple Recommend? Thanks.
  10. A good example is breast implants for enhancement purposes not for cancer survivors. Is that frowned upon in the same way that tattoos are? My experience is no, tattoos would be more taboo than breast enhancement.
  11. Why is cosmetic surgery ok but tattoos not? Most of the reasons I've read thus far have to do with tarnishing our bodies our temples with something permanent. However we have overlooked cosmetic surgery which as the exact same impact.
