  1. Yes but where is Coffee/Tea revealed as having anything to do with the Word of Wisdom? I can't find any solid prophetic quotes revealing it as such.

    That's where you come in.

Weather or not we have a solid quoted revelation isn't really the point. The Word of Wisdom is "a principle with promise" which is

"all saints who remember to keep and do these sayings, walking in obedience to the commandments, shall receive health in their navel and marrow to their bones; And shall find wisdom and great treasures of knowledge, even hidden treasures; And shall run and not be weary, and shall walk and not faint. And I, the Lord, give unto them a promise, that the destroying angel shall pass by them, as the children of Israel, and not slay them. Amen."

I have a testimony of this principle as it applies to Coffee and Tea. In the end, personal Testimony is worth a thousand prophetic quotes.

  2. Casting Crowns comes to mind.

The brethren repeatedly tell us not to compare ourselves to others. It only leads to feelings of inadequacy. Instead, realize when you are growing and when you are not. This is the best way to judge yourself.

The other piece of advice I have is to engage in intimacy even if you're not feeling it. It's called 'making love,' for a reason. It's not all about satiating lusts.

It really is sad that you came here for help and the people who should have been the first to offer you support instead decided to attack what you already realized was a problem. Keep your chin up- they're not the ones who will be judging you in the end. That belongs to the God of Love.

We're told that no man who is continually, honestly trying will fall short of Celestial Glory.

  3. Vatican website taken down by pro-abortion hackers | LifeSiteNews.com

ROME, Italy, March 7, 2012 (LifeSiteNews.com) – Hackers claiming ties to the high profile group Anonymous are taking credit after the Vatican website went down Wednesday, claiming they are going after the “corrupt” Catholic Church over the clergy sex abuse scandal as well as its stances against abortion and contraception.

    ...

They took our website down?! They totally win. We should change our stance on contraception and abortion now. And while we're at it, we'd better allow women into the priesthood. There is no way our 2000 year old church could ever last without a website.

  4. I was just curious what people's thoughts were.

You're actually completely right. Bishops are encouraged to ask for longer answers, actually. The Recommend Interviews are supposed to be a time to not only declare your worthiness, but also to explore testimonies of principles. A simple 'yes' or 'no' doesn't go nearly as far as telling about a time you struggled with something and overcame it, or telling about something you may not be at the level you feel you should be.

  5. Seems a tad controlling......i live in Florida, monstrously hot and humid. i will work outside without a shirt if I choose and I choose because the Lord blessed me with common sense and common sense suggests that I not have a heat stroke.

So what you're saying then is you can not answer the Temple Recommend question with a 'yes'? I live in Florida as well, by the way. Fort Walton Beach. Probably not as far south as you, but it is completely possible to mow your lawn with a shirt.

  6. The question was not that!

    The piece quoted says -

"added a clause about wearing them as instructed in the temple"

The question is not quite that, it is about wearing the garments without modifying the way that you wear them, ie, not tucking the cap sleeves under sleeveless dresses, etc

    .

here's a link to the letter you're referring to.

    http://mormonstories.org/other/TRI%20Questions%20120911.pdf

"It is expected that members will wear the garment

both night and day according to covenants

made in the temple. Members should not adjust

the garment or wear it contrary to instructions in

order to accommodate different styles of clothing,

even when such clothing may be generally accepted.

The garment should not be removed, either

entirely or partially, to work in the yard or for

other activities that can reasonably be done with

the garment worn properly beneath the clothing."

    It mentions both.

  7. What would you say to a skeptic who claims that JS wrote the BOM, and the reason he made a point to say Moroni quoted the Bible a little different than how it is printed is to support JS's untruth that the BOM was necessary in part because messages in the Bible were lost in translation and/or to justify that the BOM portrays the gospel slightly different than the Bible?

That would require an incredible amount of foresight. Joseph had this vision in 1823, and didn't complete the BoM until 1830. I don't think a 17 year old con man (which is what he would be if indeed he made it all up) could think that far ahead.

  8. They have just - in January - altered one of the questions on the Temple Recommend interview.

The Stake President had just got his letter from the First Presidency that day and shared the information.

The question is not for first time Recommend holders, though, it is for subsequent

    .

"In 2012, the question about wearing the garments was slightly modified to clarify that the garments should not be worn separately."

  9. Hart's Hope hope features, among other things, the brutal public rape of young girl. Wyrms has a great scene involving a human having sex with a dragon. If you haven't read these, it's probably because they're out of print and he's asked the publisher not to re-release them. Then there's all of his short stories. Reading all of his books, there are a very large number of references to pedophilia... a disturbing amount. Even in the Homecoming series, he has to throw in a sex scene involving Nafai and Luet as VERY young teenagers. He has a short story where a guy gets to go back in time to have sex with an underage girl, as his biggest regret in life was not doing it when he had the chance. I'm not making any accusations, but it would not surprise me in the least to learn that OSC was either a pedophile himself, was molested as a child, or has some very sick tendencies that come out in his writing.

Didn't know any of that. I was put off of his books by his explanation for why he chose to include some things and leave others out in 'Sarah'.

    Thanks for the info.

  10. For example, you won't be able to sell Twilight as LDS fiction even if you make Bella LDS because vampires will not pass Deseret. So, take out vampires and your left with a boring book.

Leave in Vampires and you're left with a boring book ^_^

I've only been a member for two and a half years now, so I haven't had too much of a chance to read 'mormon fiction.' What I have read has been mixed reviews- exactly like non-LDS books.

I appreciate the idea that LDS books are like the starwars prequels, but with many of them, it can't be helped. We know Joseph Smith gets martyred. We know Jesus comes back.

Some are able to get past this. For example, the Tennis shoes series has been a fun read and 'Messiah' and 'Master', take a pretty conservative look (as far as interpretation) at the Gospels.

Then there is the 'Millenial Glory' series and 'the work and the glory,' as well as Orson Scott Card's trilogy on the wives of the patriarchs. All of them are exactly like the article describes. Even so, though, they have their place, and are not completely worthless just because they are predictable and preachy.

  11. What is written above is not Church policy. It is not Church doctrine. I find it utterly bizarre that one mid-level Church manager would wander so far off of our ultra-correlated theological reservation. But two?

When I first joined the church, I started going to gospel doctrine instead of Gospel Principles for sunday school. I specifically remember one of the High Priests (not the teacher) going on and on about how when you are sealed to a spouse, the sealing to the parents is obsolete. His logic was that if you are together forever with your spouse in an exalted state, you can not also be together forever with your parents, because that would take you away from your 'sphere' of control.

I recognize this as an apostate belief. However, I also see it as a possibility that a Stake President could hold to apostate belief (the second counselor in my bishopric mentioned his mission president when he served in Japan being excommunicated for telling sister missionaries he had received revelation that Polygamy was going to be reinstated soon, and that they could become his wives) and the Bishop towing the line in the name of 'sustaining' his local leader.

After all, we have the stories of Joseph F. Smith and the Sandwich Islands, where pretty much the entire Islands had apostasized.

Not willing to say this is what happened here, but I'm also not willing to call a lady a liar just because I'd rather believe in an anonymous Bishop and SP.

Overall though, I agree with your observations.
