  1. I'm 18. I really wanted to join when I was 17, but wasn't allowed. It would have been great to be baptized though, since President Monson lowered the missionary age. I always knew that the Mormon church was never a cult. Not even close. My dad's excuse is that they have missionaries going door-to-door. I told him that in Matthew 28:19 that we're encouraged to spread the gospel. But of course, he's still stuck in the mainstream mindset. It's very tough to get anything across to him. I see myself getting baptized after or during college. So about 2-4 years I'll have to wait. Unless, of course, my parents approve of me joining. To be honest, I really don't get all this cult talk or bashing of the Mormon church. It's really just pointless and I find it very, very upsetting that Mormons are being bashed. There's no basis for it. I've almost cried because of the hatred I hear. I really wish it would stop. But thankfully Mitt Romney has helped in shedding new light on the church, and hopefully the church experiences better understanding from fellow Christians.
  2. A simple answer I could give is wanting to be closer to our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ. But there's more to it then that. When I started looking into the church, I was amazed at how family oriented it is and how wonderful and kind Latter-day Saints are. I was touched when two Latter-day Saint missionaries came to my door. They were kind, warm in their greetings, and really just nice to be around. What touched me the most was when they gave me the Book of Mormon. One night I started reading the Book of Mormon, and honestly, I couldn't put it down, because I knew it was the word of God, I knew that it was real, and I believe Joseph Smith was the first prophet. Sadly though, my father told me the LDS church was a cult, and got rid of my Book of Mormon (I have no idea where it is). But you know what, that didn't stop me from believing. It made me stronger in my belief that the church is the true church. Admittedly, there were a few times that I felt like giving up, but, me being as stubborn as I am, I persisted. I don't believe I'll be baptized or attend a service anytime soon (because of my parents), but I'll always believe, and I am going to try my best to be a Latter-day Saint in all but name. So brothers and sisters, I hope to join you soon! I am so looking forward to being baptized in a couple years, but it'll be worth the wait! Jody
  3. I believe my Catholic faith is wrong, and always has been. That is why I am converting to the only true church, The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. I think one major reason I am converting is because I believe in modern day prophets (among other things). My hope is to be a member by the summer, if not sooner. :)
  4. Welcome to the forum. I am also new, and I am looking forward to introducing myself (when I get to the required post limit). :) Canuck
  5. +1 Even though I'm Catholic, I tend to avoid Anti-Mormon literature since I am in the process of converting (which btw, I'm very exciting for!). Plus, I don't want anything getting in the way of my conversion with the one and only true Church (the LDS).
