  1. Welcome blazius!... I wouldn't say the practice suddenly stopped, it actually took about 14 years to really end. M. Ok, 14 years....I didn't realize this. But what about the rest of my comment? Listen: If I were a committed Mormon who lived the Word of Wisdom and everything else, would it be wrong in the eyes of the Lord to have three or four wives on an island that didn't have anti-polygamous laws? Would it be wrong to live there with my wives, faithfully raising my family? I've also wondered, why were the men blessed with having more than one woman to have sex with and the women only had one man? Does the Lord consider this fair? I'm not trying to be irreverent, just curious to know if anyone here has these answers. thanks, blazius
  2. I would like to ask about polygamy. I’m very interested in the LDS church but I have often wondered about this polygamous issue and why so many practiced it and then suddenly stopped. I’ve heard many of the leaders and regular men practiced polygamy, but what was so holy about it? And since it stopped, is it now unholy? I mean, if I were a faithful Mormon living on a deserted island, would it be a holy thing for me to have several wives on that island? It seems to me that God would actually bless my little island paradise, unless He has said that polygamy is now unholy. Anyway, just my thoughts. But also, don’t you all think that an outsider would look at someone like Brigham Young, who had many wives as just a man with a huge sexual appetite, and that’s why he did it? Couldn’t polygamy be a twice-blessed grand sexual scheme for the men involved? Blessed by the Lord for practicing it and blessed with all the women to have sex with? I don’t know, just some of my thoughts about it. any help with this would be appreciated. blazius
  3. I would like to ask you about this statement from Jesus: keeping the commandments. According to the LDS church, what commandments is Jesus referring to here? Is He talking about the 10 commandments given to Moses? Or, is Jesus talking about all of the commandments in the Old Testament? Or, is He only referring to NT commands? The direction I’m going with this is, if I’m a to be a faithful Mormon, which commandments am I to be concerned about? blazius
  4. I’ve been thinking of visiting a Mormon church for some time now, just to get a feel for the attitudes toward me, an outsider, and the atmosphere among the parishioners. I don’t know why, but I am reluctant to attend. It’s not because of my clothes (I have the proper attire), and it’s not because of my skepticism of the religion. I guess the reason I’m reluctant to attend a Mormon service is that I’m afraid of being judged. What I mean is, will I be frowned upon for attending only as a seeker? Will I be ostracized because I’m looking for answers? Will I be singled out for being single, at 28? Anyway, this is my dilemma. blazius
  5. hello everyone! My name is blazius and I found this forum in an inadvertant way searching the internet. It looks fun here so I thought I'd join. I'm not LDS, or anything really. I'm kind of searching right now, but since I live in Salt Lake City I find the Mormon influence kind of appealing, especially the emphasis on family. I would like to get involved with some of the discussions here maybe just to solidify what direction I need to go. I hope its all okay. blazius
