  1. It doesn't matter if he was a model prophet or not, he WAS a prophet. And what he prophesied did not come true. If the verse you quoted can be used to discount our prophets, to show how they are false, then it certainly can be used to discount a biblical prophet. There really isn't any difference.
  2. In order to understand what we believe it takes to get into heaven, one must first understand what our belief is concerning heaven. We believe that there are three degrees of glory, levels, if you will, of heaven. The Telestial is the lowest, the Terrestrial is the second, and the Celestial is the highest. And then there is outer darkness which isn't a degree of glory at all. It is not difficult to enter into the telestial kingdom. ANd it is reserved for those murderers, whoremongers, and those who know and love a lie. In the end, all sin will be forgiven except for blaspheming the Holy Ghost, but they do not warrant a better reward than this. In this kingdom, you will behold the glory of the spirit, but not the father or son. The Terrestrial Kingdom is for Latter-Day Saints who have a testimony, but were only lukewarm in their conviction. They were basically good, but didn't live to the best of their ability. This is also for good people that do not belong the the church. Here you will behold the glory of the Son, but not the Father. The Celestial Kingdom is reserved for those Latter Day Saints who were faithful to the end, kept the commandments, obeyed and followed every covenant. You will forever live with your family and you will behold the glory of both the Father and the Son. Outer Darkness if reserved for Satan and his angels. Also, anyone who has a perfect knowledge of the truth and have partaken of the power of the Holy Ghost, but still rebel and put Christ to an open shame will go here. Fortunately, very few souls will end up here.
  3. There are way too many to talk about here, but some basic evangelical beliefs are: The Trinity (Father,Son,Holy Ghost are one in substance), the infallibility of the Bible and a closed canon of scriptures, salvation by grace alone, those that do not believe exactly what they do will go to hell, even if they were good people, they don't believe in vicarious ordinances, and based on their television shows, I get the feeling that they think all muslims are bad and that they can invoke the power of God at will.
  4. You are so right PC- Fact: TheSacredOne posted this topic on the 8th. He joined the 3rd of Aug. He has made 2 posts and his last time here was the 8th. Me thinks he wasn't serious, could quite possibly be a troll. Speculation: Doubt if he is ever coming back. Your speculation would be incorrect. And I am dead serioius. It's offensive that you would say otherwise. And this is not hearsay. He told my dad, but I was there when he said it. Someone said that I needed more details, so this is a basic rundown of what happened. He had a decent job, then was laid off. So he went to the unemployment office so he could draw unemployment. realizing that that wasn't enough money, he decided to get another job somewhere else. But according to law, if he started working, he would lose his unemployment, they don't let you draw it if you are making money. So he signed his dad's name to the umemployment forms, so when they check up on him (his dad) they'll see that he isn't working since he's been retired. And then when the dad receives the money he gives it to the son. The way he acted, it was like he thought it was okay, he said it in a very matter-of-fact way, like he was talking about how his week went. So even though he didn't use the word 'fraud' he admitted to the act. My dad hasn't reported it because quite frankly, he doesn't really care. It's none of his business. ANd just on a side note, I could do without all the rude comments. I come here seeking an answer to a serious problem, and I'm treated like the one who's breaking the rules.
  5. I know that you are supposed to support your leaders, and never try to find fault with them, but the 1st councilor in our ward is committing fraud. I know this for a fact, he told my dad this a few weeks ago. But I'm not sure if this should be taken to the bishop, or if it should be reported at all. The problem is compounded because a relative of mine doesn't feel like she can receive a temple recommend because one of the questions that is asked is if she supports the bishopric, and she doesn't thinkshe can answer 'yes' because of the actions of this councilor. So what are my options? I'm not sure what someone is supposed to do. I don't want to rat people out, but what he's doing isn't right.
  6. I've been assigned to give a talk on the third Sunday of August, and I could use a little help. Even though this August is my tenth year in the church, I've never been asked to speak before and I'm not really sure what I should talk about. The recommended topic is the Spirit and gifts of the Spirit, and I've been doing some research on these. I've found lots of information, but I'm not sure what to use. I'm also really wanting to incorporate some aspects from my conversion into the talk, as it makes for an interesting story, I'm just not sure what to include, or what route to take. Any help would be appreciated. -TSO
