  1. So after all that, does anyone have any links to what the church officially says about women wearing pants to church? Apart from the one already provided, which I'm happy to take as official but others are saying it is not. Some are also saying I can wear pants to church, while others suggest that I shouldn't. Basically, according to the church, I am allowed to wear pants to church or not?
  2. Perhaps you are looking into it too much. Some guy told me what I should and shouldn't wear to church when I looked perfectly respectable, he had no right to do that. I'm angry about it. I'm even more angry after reading that the LDS church 'recommends' women wear skirts or dresses to church. I like dresses, I like skirts, I like pants. As long as I don't look like a hooker I should be able to wear what I like to church without being 'told off' by other church members.
  3. I find it insulting that a stranger should feel the need to tell me how to dress at church. I don't like that he can find 'back up' for this idea in church recommendations. Its pretty simple.
  4. While I agree with you on this as far as the bigger things are concerned (doctrine for example). But, if the church is going to tell me I have to wear dresses (or at the bare minimum 'recommend'), then I'm going to tell it where to get off. I will let it go as you suggest, but if he says anything to me again I will be saying something and taking it further.
  5. Why do you go straight to ' this must not be the church of Jesus'? That's an extreme viewpoint and totally unnecessary and honestly a bit confronting. This guy was a jerk, but when I look closer I can understand why he felt the need to be a jerk. There are 'guidelines' from 2005 saying that women should wear skirts or dresses so you can't blame him for saying something if that is what the church has on their own website. He was just sticking up for the ideals of the church's dress code. So it is only natural to come to the conclusion that I have a massive problem with the church's dress code. Its not the 1700s, women have been wearing pants for a very long time. I believe the church needs to get rid of that recommendation so instances like the one I had to deal with don't happen anymore. To be 100% clear, this guy was a jerk, no I don't think the whole church is not full of jerks nor do I judge the whole church off one bad experience. I do have a big problem with the fact that the church's dress recommendations seem to be on the same side as this jerk. They need to take that statement off the website if it really isn't a big deal if women wear pants to church.
  6. I'm not saying the church in its entirety is controlling, but I do find the fact that they put forth ideals on what they expect women to wear to church controlling, especially when it effects other members so much that they feel the need to say something about it to someone. I am not new to going to church, I have attended quite a few different church in my life and have never had anyone speak to me like that, I find it very unkind and insulting to be honest. Am I writing the entire church off because of it? Of course not. But it is obviously a cultural problem that is, in part, backed up by church teachings. I have a problem with that and I am allowed to have a problem with that.
  7. I don't have a problem with the Gospel of Jesus, that is not what this is about at all, this is about how the LDS church believes women should dress for church and then to say so in back and white. I find it very controlling that they would go into detail like that. Surely it is more appropriate to say 'neat casual dress' rather than 'women wear skirts or dresses'. It obviously has an effect on the members otherwise this man would not have felt the need to say something to me. I can understand now why he did, he is just agreeing with what the church said on their own website. However, I most certainly do not agree with it.
  8. Thanks so much for the link. I find it really disturbing that apparently I can't wear pants to church. It says so right there on the LDS website, I can't believe it, and from 2005 as well. I am having a huge problem with this. Also I am overwhelmed with all the responses, thank you everyone
  9. Hello I have been going to LDS church services for a couple of months now, I'm not baptised yet. Anyway I showed up to church in dress pants, nice pants not jeans or anything. I was asked by one of the men (who sit at the front when service is on, I don't know his exact position but he is sort of important at church) to wear appropriate dress to church, women should be in skirts or dresses. It was cold, I wore very nice pants, what is the big deal? To be honest I was pretty insulted and am not in a rush to go back this week, think I might skip church tomorrow.
  10. I know they look so little, I just want to feed them and send them home to see their family, they must miss their mothers so much. I probably haven't been direct enough with them, I don't want to hurt their feelings
  11. I've tried, I'll try again, and they're so young, I feel like I'm breaking their little hearts every time I say no
  12. Im reading it, but its very wordy, its a lot like the KJ version of the bible as far as language and well not really my thing, I'm reading it though, a family moving overseas and one big war so far lol
  13. I'm learning basic things about the church I guess, how it started, about Jospeh, the Word of Wisdom, tithing requirements, stuff like that, as far as feeling anything, I mostly feel uncomfortable, waiting for the missionaries to ask me to be baptised again, I just want to focus on what I'm learning about the church.
  14. Just an update for anyone who want to know. I've had 6 lessons with the missionaries so far, its interesting but one thing I don't like is they keep asking me to be baptised. It's getting uncomfortable, I've told them twice already that if I decide thats what I want to do they'll be the first people I tell. I'm not just going to join a church after a few lessons and a going to church a couple of times. They're really sweet and I don't wan to upset them but they need to stop asking!
  15. I try not to think about stuff like this, it makes things too confusing for me. But I do find your ideas interesting
  16. Thank you, and don't worry I don't think this church is weird, and I will stay for the full 3 hours. I want to see what all of church is like
  17. I had my lesson, it was really interesting, it was about jospeh smith and how he started the mormon church, I have been invited to go to church with them on Sunday, I am going to go. They told me church goes for 3 hours!
  18. Thanks everyone! I will read go back and read all the intro stuff zil because I didn't do that, I skipped straight to chapter one 1 Nephi They are coming on Wednesday, I'm pretty excited, there was just something about them, you could tell they were close to God
  19. Hello everyone I am new and know absolutely nothing about this church. The other day I was at home, upset about life in general, and two young men knocked on my door from The Church Of Jesus Christ Of Latter Day Saints, what a long name that is! They came back a couple of days later and gave me a book of mormon to read, they were really lovely and I have agreed to read it and have a lesson with them next week. I do not know anyone who is religious so I found this forum online for help and advice. Is there anything other than reading some of the book of mormon that I should do to prepare for this lesson? What part of it do you think I should read first? Thanks in advance to anyone who replies.
