  2. Getting Baptized!!!

    An Evening of Incredible JOY! I was baptized last night. The Bishop said I was GLOWING! It was such a beautiful beginning of a new life in Christ and I will be officially a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, as I am confirmed next Sunday and receive the Gift of the Holy Ghost.

    About 35 guests attended, I was surprised at the turnout, they had to set up more chairs and the room was full!

    Even though I only had just attended Relief Society for the first time that morning, about 5 ladies from the group attended and brought treats.

    I choose the two hymns sung, two of my favorites, first "The Spirit of God" and the concluding hymn, "If You Could Hie to Kolob". The Spirit in the room was amazing, everyone felt it, and I wish I had remembered to bring kleenex, because their were lots of tears of JOY and Gratitude!

    The Brighton Stake where I was baptized, is a beautiful building and for the last few months whenever we drove by it, I would say, "I'm going there someday." I had no idea it would be for my baptism! My Heavenly Father knew.

    I talked to the Bishop Sunday morning and he agreed that my situation (sharing a home with Beau) is unusual, but he agreed that Beau is a Good Samaritan and takes

    care of me and supports me through everything inculding my health problems, through the goodness of his heart. The Bishop said I would not be penalized for this and he said he could see my innocence. He said some members may look at us "questioningly", but he said it is his job to Shephard and protect those in the Church

    and he will watch over me. Such a Blessing! More than I ever expected.

    So on the public Gallery here and on my Profile Gallery, I have posted three pictures from the blessed evening.

    Thank you to all who have prayed for me. Your prayers, and mine, have been answered in ways more wonderful than I could have imagined!!!

  5. LDS Baptisim Question

    My heart's deepest desire is finally coming true. I'm being baptized this Sunday, November 16th, at the Brighton Stake in Sandy, Utah, 7pm.

    I've studied and investigated on my own for about two years. On Tuesday, Nov.4th, just as we were leaving to take posession of our first house, the missionaries arrived. Turns out they are also responsible for our new neighborhood as well. I've met with them three times already and will meet three more times before Sunday. But they could see my spirit right away and knew I was ready. (I've been ready for a long time!!!) Last Sunday I attended my new Ward and it was wonderful. The missionaries have even helped us in our process of moving!

    So Nov. 4th was really a new beginning, not only for our country, due to the election, but also for me and my housemate moving to a our new home and neighborhood, and best of all for my being at the beginning of my membership and fellowship into the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, and nothing else compares to this blessing!!! I am SO grateful, more than words can express!

    This year has been an amazing adventure for me and I know with certainty our Heavenly Father and my savior Jesus Christ have been with me and will continue to be with me every moment of everyday! And ALL IS WELL!!!!!! Always.:)

    Yippeeeeee! Congratulations! I am SO happy for you and your success has encouraged me to call the missionaries as soon as we get moved. I hope the

    missionary President in Salt Lake will be as open and understanding as yours.

    Oh, you ARE in Salt Lake City aren't you?!! Yea! There may be hope for me then,

    too. The CES class I take here in Cottonwood Hgts. is with the former SLC missionary President and he seems very open and loving and non-judgemental.

    I really don't understand some of the comments I've read here while following this discussion.

    Two people sharing a house "is the appearance of evil".???? That's kinda crazy. My housemate and I could be compared to "Donny and Marie" sharing a home. (for those who don't know, Donny and Marie are a famous LDS brother and sister singing duo from Provo, Utah). Would Donny and Marie sharing a house be "the appearance of evil". That seems kinda ridiculous to me.

    Anyway, once we get moved I'll invite the missionaries, start going to the local ward, and get to meet all my wonderful new neighbors. It's a strongly LDS neighborhood. We will invite them over on Sunday nights for a quiet meditation and "get to know your neighbors" evening. And that should dispel any "appearance of evil" as we come to know each other and share our FOCUS on God, family and country.

    Wow! This is all so exciting. I look forward to the adventure ahead for both of us!!!

  7. Our First New Home

    I am SOOOOO excited!!!!!!!

    We have bought our first house! After renting and living frugally for 16 years, we have finally been able to become home owners. (no, it wasn't a foreclosure, but it was a good deal!). We found the cutest house in Cottonwood Heights, Utah, the prettiest little town in the world!!!

    The area is actually called, "City Between the Canyons", and it is on the east bench of the Wasatch Mountain range.

    The house even has a pond and waterfall in the backyard! And the front yard has 20 rose bushes! It's a very romantic story. Every year when the first owners had a weddding anniversary, they planted a new rose bush. After 20 years, I guess they ran out of room and moved.

    We take possession of the home on Tuesday, November 4th.So this will be a memorable and miraculous "election day" for me, no matter who wins. This is still the most wonderful country in the world, and I feel so blessed, privileged and grateful to live here in the United States of America!

    We don't have a home football team here in Utah. I guess the closest would be the Denver Broncos. But I root for the Chicago Bears, because my housemate grew up in Chicago. I also like the Detroit Lions, since I grew up in Michigan, but they're bad. The new Lions stadium was built atop the property where the hospital I was born in used to be. (so I tell everyone I was born in a football stadium!) I also root for the New York Giants now, since Bryan Kehl #53 (from BYU) was drafted there and he plays defense this year, even though he's just a rookie! He could make it to the Super Bowl in his first year!!!

    Prostate Cancer

    I will be praying for you and your husband. Getting a diagnosis of cancer is very scary, but there have been so many advances in treatment, that the outlook

    for a total healing is very good. I had cancer surgery in April, and right now I feel really great! I have more energy than I've had in years! So be strong for your husband, and rely totally on God. You will be blessed with Miracles!

    I'm in a similar situation and I've received all kinds of answers on this forum, from "oh, it's fine" to "no way can you be baptized". I have been an investigator for about three years now, and I love the Church and would join in a minute.

    But I have a male housemate (not romantic at all) and so I've heard that I am "unqualified" to be a member. That seems so silly to me! We are both seniors and I'm retired and could not live on my own finanacially. I imagine in our economy now, we will see more and more of older (and younger) people sharing a home.

    Anyway, he just bought a home and so we will be moving to a new ward. I will call the missionaries to come visit and see how it goes from there. I've never talked to a Bishop, but I guess it may be my next step.

    I've been told by many who know me, that I "seem more LDS" than members they know. I take a BYU adult education class at my local stake and everyone treats me "like one of them".

    I love when they call me "sister". So I am praying that my hope and dream of baptism will come true. I will be praying for you too! God Bless!!!

    Home, Health and Happyness

    I ask for your prayers.

    Next week we are suppose to close the deal on our first house. We have found the perfect place in beautiful Cottonwood Hgts, Utah where we can live for the rest of our lives. (We have lived in this city for years and just love the area) We are both seniors and have saved for 15 years for a big down payment on this home. We always rented until now. This house is owned by an LDS family and it has a sweet spirit and Light within.We got a pretty good deal on the price, due to the slow market. And they were glad to find a buyer. (I'll post up pictures of this cozy, simple but welcoming home, as soon as the deal is done)

    The past two weeks, since we signed the deal to purchase the house, have been a financial crisis for the entire country. Many have lost thousands of dollars in their 401s. We've lost a ton, but are hopeful that there will be a rebound. The problem for us is that interest rates have sky-rocketed and we are closing on our house next week and need the rates to be reasonable. Please pray. Also, please pray that Beau will keep his job. He should have retired by now (he's almost 70), but we need his paycheck for at least two more years. We have the 401k for retirement and he gets S.S. but with the cost of living, we need his paycheck too. (even though we live simply) The house purchase is going to save us money over the cost of continual renting and price increases, so this is a good move for us at a good time, but we really need prayers about the interest rate and his continued employment. (no bailouts for us!)

    Also, please pray for my health. I had a checkup the end of Aug. and I seemed to be cancer-free, my next 3 month checkup is the end of November. But lately I've been feeling some pains off and on. I pray that

    it is nothing serious and try not worry about what it could be, but I really need your prayers that I will remain healthy and cancer-free.

    And finally, I would ask for prayers for the people of America. We have been going through a rough time for the last few weeks and I know that many people are fearful, worried, angry, feel betrayed and are just really mad. I pray that we will all cling to God our Father and the happyness that He brings to all who know Him and stay close to his loving care. He will see us through this crisis, and it may just turn out to be a good thing in the long run. People will learn to simplify and remember what's really important. We may go back to the times when families were close, homes were small and cozy, and friends and family just sat around the fireplace at night, playing board games and enjoying each others company. Sounds pretty good to me!:)

    These are so beautiful!!! I've seen (from the outside) alot of the Utah Temples, and I toured the Idaho Falls Temple during the Open House. Amazing feeling inside and out!

    I'd love to visit the San Diego Temple and the Hawaii Temple. I wonder if anyone has ever visited every Temple in the world?

    Have you ever heard the song "The Power of Heaven"? It's about the feeling you get from the Temple. One of my most favorite songs!

  21. Mitt Romney the person, not the politician

    (yesterday I started a thread similar to this and it was shut down immediately! what a difference a day makes!)

    Romney was my first choice, not because he is a Mormon, but because he is a good and honest man, full of integrity and openess. I met him in Salt Lake City and his aura was one of extraordinary kindness, strength, spirituality and goodness. I thought I'd be terribly disappointed if he was not chosen, but I am surprised to find that I am happy with Sarah Palin. She is a Christian Conservative and I believe she will work to bring Christians together and promote an atmosphere of openess and dialogue, that is sometimes shut down by those who may not be firm in their faith or refuse to be open to discussion of the inclusion of spirituality in politics.

    (please forgive me, if this was "political", it's just hard to separate the man from his calling)

  22. Fire Burning Near New LDS Temple

    The fire is not even close to the temple. I can see the fire perfectly from work. The picture shown on the link is very deceiving as to how close it is.

    That's GREAT news!

    The local news is reporting that some

    neighborhoods in Draper are now being evacuated.

    But the winds are dying down, so that should

    help the firefighters get some control.

    Radiologist Appointment

    Tomorrow is my appointment with the Radiologist for a checkup to see if the radiation treatment worked and if I am cancer free, or if any new tumors are visible. Please keep me in your prayers tomorrow, I would very much appreciate it. I know prayer is so powerful and I really want to be healthy! :)
