  1. Does the day not exist in the American calendar as Boxing Day? is it just December 26th to you all?

I did try to ask somebody what was the significance of the day being called Boxing Day, but I didn't get an answer, I know that in the UK we always show sports programmes on that day, so wondered whether the word Boxing was associated with that, although it seems unlikely...I will scan the 'net to see if I can find out exactly what it is...

I've just found this Wiki page all about the various histories of Boxing Day...apparently it is 'celebrated' by the UK and other Commonwealth Countries..

It seems that it has some of its origins in feudal times, when the staff of large, rich households had to work on Christmas Day and so were given the next day off as a holiday, and also received a box containing left over food from the Christmas Meal, and other goods.

It also used to refer to the day on which the poor and employees were paid from a box of pennies...the equivalent of today's Christmas Bonus payments.

This google search page brings up some of the other Urban Legends about Boxing Day if you're interested in reading any of the links...

that interesting :) thanks for sharing. I never have known too much about boxing day....

  2. I'm pretty sure you wont regret getting one. Its really handy to have. whenever i feel directionless in life, i pull it out and even if it doesnt give me in great detail a direction, it helps to reassure me that i will be able to take whatever life has to offer. In short, a patriarchal blessing is a great thing to have.

  3. it doesn't say anywhere that we have to be perfect to attend

if fact, it says the less perfect we are te more we need to attend.

"When Jesus heard it, he saith unto them, They that are whole have no need of the physician, but they that are sick: I came not to call the righteous, but sinners to repentance."

If any one looks down on you for being at church while not doing everything perfectly, they do not understand the teachings of our Savior.

  5. When we have trials we are told to bear them with patience. Trials are Heavenly Fathers way of testing our faith here on earth. They bring us feelings that are bad, give us a bad day and sometimes a bad year. They can make us sad, even depressed. In my study this morning something came to me that made me think a bit different. When Jesus suffered he experienced all of the feelings only way more intense. Maybe us having a "bad" feeling or bad day is a way for us to come closer to our Savior, probably better than any other way.

I believe it human nature to become depressed when bad things happen. As others have said, trials are for a purpose and ultimately help to shape us into a better person. We need to prepare for these trials so that they don't make us depressed. (The first presidency is constantly telling us to get a one year food supply. I wonder if it is possible for a spiritual one year supply?)

I think the ultimate goal is to learn to take trials in stride. remember that the savior suffered all that we have suffered. all our pains and depressiona and everything, all so that he can truly understand how we feel. I think if we try not to let ourselves get into such a depressed state (i know this cant always be controlled), it will in some way be helping the saviour, just as a sin not committed is one less than the saviour had to atone for. I dont know if that made much sense, but my point is to try to see the bright side even if it may be difficult. Heavenly Father just wants for us to be happy after all.

  6. <div class='quotemain'>There are stars that will do what normal stars will not - they are called "Super Nova's" in our time

Why do you say a Super Nova is not "normal"? What is a "normal star"?

This is nothing "abnormal" about Super Novas, and it is misleading to say so.

    Elphaba

I agree. But as such, I believe that God works with actual principles to work his miracles, as opposed to some mysterious use of magic. He knows the properties of everything so well he can manipulate things to his will, and still be scientifically sound.

  7. I'm still pretty new here but i have enjoyed every minute. Every one is so friendly. I stumbled across this site about a month ago in my search for different thoughts and ideas about the LDS religion, and most of my searches werre filled with blatantly biased information against the church. Here I can talk to people who don't believe and not start an argument. My experience here has served to strengthen my testimony greatly.

  8. I think seeing the resurrected Christ would be one of the best things we could ever experience and that we should all try to live worthily to be able to see him. I do not think it is a common occurence though. Out of all the people on earth, there are probably not very many that are worthy to see him. And out of those few there are yet fewer for whom it is expediant to see the Christ.

I think it is human nature to be disbelieving, especially when there is no immediate physical evidence to prove otherwise. And it is human nature to get jealous of someone who has had better opportunities than us, but by know means should we give into these temptations. I think it is perfectly reasonable that Christ has seen it expediant to show himself to people, and who are we to judge?

  9. Today, through much prayer and fasting... my prayers were heard and answered. My bishop arranged to meet with me, and told me that I could enjoy all the blessings of full membership in this church. I can't believe it's been 1 1/2 years since I took the sacrament... one more week until next Sunday seems so long now that I know I can take it. I'm so happy... he also said he'd talk to the stake president about me going on a mission soon. Today is a GREAT day.

Congrats! I hope you have a wonderful time on your mission. Best of luck!
  10. At the end of the day I still dont believe that a loving and true God would deny his children access to his prescence. What about all the billions of people that have gone before us?? With only a smidgen of a percent doing temple work, doesnt seem like the best way to ensure ones salvation.

God is a loving God, and loves us so much, he wants the best for us, and for us to be the best we can be. This is why he gives us commandments. By following his commandments we become better people. We know we can follow the prophets' advice, because they only state the will of God, though we must pray and ask God ourselves, of course. (D&C 1:38 "What I the Lord have spoken, I have spoken, and I excuse not myself; and though the heavens and the earth pass away, my word shall not pass away, but shall all be fulfilled, whether by mine own voice or by the voice of my servants, it is the same. ")

He is also a just God. In alma 42:13 it says "Now the work of justice could not be destroyed; if so, God would cease to be God." Laws, if broken, need consequences, or techniquely there is no law, meaning no justice, and hence no God. Since God is a just God, He needs enforce these laws. He will not force us to abide by his commandments, no matter how much he wants us to be with Him. Forcing is Satan's plan. He has granted us the atonement with which we can recieve mercy. Basically, it is up to us if we want to follow God or not, and if we haven't been, it is never too late to repent and begin.

On the matter of all the people that have gone before us, Temples will be open 24/7 during the millenium for the salvation of the dead. God knows about those who have not had the chance to visit the temple, and cares about them as much as you or me. During the millenium, everyone who wants their work done will have that opportunity. (That doesn't mean we don't need to do temple work, however. Temple work is a commandment. D&C 127:4 "And again, verily thus saith the Lord: Let the work of my temple, and all the works which I have appointed unto you, be continued on and not cease; and let your diligence, and your perseverance, and patience, and your works be redoubled, and you shall in nowise lose your reward, saith the Lord of Hosts. And if they persecute you, so persecuted they the prophets and righteous men that were before you. For all this there is a reward in heaven."

    I hope this helps :)
