I think Heavenly Father adapts the requirements for the times. Or sets up different requirements. Woman can't and aren't required to get the priesthood.
On the Joseph Smith Papers show when they were talking about the Word of Wisdom the church kept trying to get people to follow it. But it kind of got to a point to where they knew it was just going to happen in the next generation. I think people could have followed the word of wisdom. It might just be easier to start when we are young. Who knows.

Yeah so, Heavenly Father has spirit Children. Like any Father he wants them to be like He is! But we had two problems! One Heavenly Father has a body, we did not. Heavenly Father had a Family, and even though we are part of his family, we don't have our own family.
This is why we needed Mortal life. We come to earth to get a body. But we also are here how to learn to use the body. We also are here to see if we can still follow Heavenly Father even when he isn't right in front of us (we call this Faith).
Jesus Christ was the first (Spirit) born of Heavenly Fathers kids'. We don't know where Lucifer came in.
Jesus Christ from the start knew he was the first Born and probably to some extent knew he had to be ready for anything his Father needed him to do.
Lucifer a spirit like us, wants the same things we all wanted, (A body, and to be like God), but he didn't want to do all the work (come down to earth life, and learn Faith). So Lucifer put forth a plan (Knowing that God never takes away our choices) the plan was we do what Lucifer says (never break any commandments) and we would be perfect and gain everything. But Lucifer's plan took away agency. Some how Agency is an eternal law to some degree. Because Lucifer tried to over throw God to some extent he was cast out!
The rest is history.

You still need to go through the Bishop. Its in the Handbook he has. I do think I have heard that it goes a little quicker if you are engaged. But I think it also requires some part from your Ex (I think she might have to sign something). You bishop has all that stuff. If he doesn't know where to start he should talk to the stake president.

Talk to your Elders quorum president or your district leader. See if he knows any info that would help. Also they might be able to go ht with you.

Not only does it help understand other parts of the Book of Mormon, but also helps make the Isaiah chapters in the Book of Mormon understandable, not only for us, but also why Nephi put them in there.
A bigger book to consider is Christ and the New Covenant by Elder Holland.
(I would try to get a hard bound copy) its a big book but also very insightful how he organizes the different witnesses to Christ. One of those being Isaiah.

If this is the case, I guess I'm having a little trouble understanding the need for Moses to be transfigured if he wasn't actually in the presence of God the Father, but was instead conversing with Jesus Christ.
My two cents is... Jesus Christ even though was a spirit at this time, by his calling as part of the Godhead was different then any other spirit. This wasn't just an angel that came down, it was a member of the Godhead, Jesus Christ, acting for Heavenly Father. I think we can agree this is a different situation.
The other thought is that Moses was a mortal--Fallen man. He had the effects of the Fall on him, just like we all do. For a Fallen Man to be in the presence of God (And the God head is one) some change has to take place for this to happen. Moses like us all was cut off because of the fall. Only through the spirit could somebody withstand this experience.

We're getting an Android tablet for a family Christmas gift, largely so that we can check electronic books out from a local library. I wanted to mention, though, that Deseret Book has ebooks, including many literary classics and GA's books for free! I'm excited to get the tablet. Oh and we're finally entering this decade and upgrading to a smartphone, thanks to a great Black Friday sale, so I can have books with me all the time! Not that I'll be able to read them with the twins to corral.
I got my Android Tablet over a year and a half ago. I mostly got it for some games on the go, e-mail, and web surfing. The whole scriptures and Books was a pleasant surprise.
1. I hope you got a good Tablet. The problem with Android being open, anybody can put it on there tablet. A Cheap tablet is a cheap tablet.
2. Get use to the Desert Book loving ipad and taking for ever with Android (Disney seems to be the same). At least that is how it was. I downloaded the Deseret Book App. At the time it was just a port of some cell phone app and I could tell. What was worst is that the app had its own brightness setting. My tablet uses an Auto brightness depending on how bright the room is. I would be reading an e-mail and open up the Deseret book app and get blinded every time.
I do hope its better, but then again Deseret Books have always been overpriced. I wish (and hope) that seagull book can get into the game. (before it passes them by)
3. I didn't like the Nook App either. Maybe it was just because I got use to the Kindle app. Maybe they have updated the Nook App. As you start to download all these app you start hope for just one ebook format that everybody would use. But that won't happen anytime soon.
4. Don't overlook google books. I think you can get books from the Google store in there. But Google is big on scanning all the books. A lot of these old books are free.
For example I have James E Talmage The House of The Lord book. These old books are scanned images. So the Text is usually pretty small and might not be perfect.
I have found old General Conference issues. History of Joseph Smith. I think I have some Brigham Young book that I haven't read.
5. I don't know if the Nook does this (it probably does) but one cool think you can do with the Kindle (Amazon) app is send documents to it. you get an e-mail address [email protected] (You do have to make sure you set up devices in your Amazon account)
You can always put documents on your tablet to read. Once something gets so big its just nicer to put it in the Kindle app and read it as any book.
I wish there was an easier way. But I use the old Gospel Link 2001 (installed on my XP Mode) I copy some of these books over to a document then just e-mail the document to my Kindle. I wish there was an easier way to get the text out of Gospel Link, but for now it works.

I thought I would start a thread here for people to ask for ideas for LDS specific Christmas Gifts.
Here I go. So I'm getting my Niece (11 almost 12 years old) the new Taylor Swift CD. But I thought I would throw in some LDS artist too. Anybody know of a good LDS artist CD thats pretty good. All the songs doesn't have to be religious. Probably a similar sound to Taylor Swift?

I have learned that a leaders job is to really motivate. Motivate to be good Husbands, motivate to be good Priesthood Holders. Motivate to do Home Teaching.
HT is hard for some people to do. Some people never did it as a youth and thus still don't fully understand it. There are those that always expect the other guy to call them. The problem is the other guy is waiting for somebody to call him.
I do suggest you do PPI's as often as you feel you need them. Our ward never really did PPI's until our last Presidency was put in. I have a strong feeling that if Home Teaching is just a casual thing to the presidency, then it becomes a casually thing to the Elders. A good PPI isn't worried about numbers, but about how the Companionship is doing and how the families are doing.
Side note -- I grew up having the same Home Teachers come every month. We knew that we sat on the couch and got the lesson. But now that I am in my own ward, I run into families and most kids that never had Home Teachers come. I was a little fearful that we had a rising generation that didn't know what Home Teaching was.
Activities are good, but hard to do. It seems like people are more willing to come if they don't have to find a babysitter. Meaning something for the whole family. Also remember that some people might not be married.
Communicate with your counselors and secretary. Have a presidency meetings as often as you feel is needed. But really set a schedule to have them. If you keep in contact them your presidency you might not need them as often. But the key is to have them.
Last-- the challenge we are having is most of our Elders serve in Young Men or even in the Primary. So giving lessons on Home Teaching doesn't really reach most of the quorum. The key is always stay in contact with these (Back to PPI's) but to find ways to let them know what is going on in the quorum.

I'm trying to buy a computer for my mom. Doesn't need much, but found a good deal on an i5 for 499. (4gb and 500gb hard drive). The best deal I can find for her. One problem! It now comes with Windows 8! Ug!!!

When you create a law, a line is drawn. You obey that law then this is good, you don't this is bad.
The farther away from God you go the closer you move away from light and truth. No light = more darkness and evil.

No. Thats why we have the Sacrament
I just feel I have been away for so long that I would not feel right just "resuming" where I left off.
So being re-baptized is more as some symbol to yourself that you have changed?
The point of baptism and the Sacrament is to take part in the atonement. If you got re-baptized, you are kind of saying that the Sacrament isn't enough of the Atonement for me.
I hope by picking up where you left off means you were close with your Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ. I think thats the whole point of forgiveness.

I have come to learn there are e-mail people there are text people. And there are nether.
I needed to get some numbers to turn over to the Ward Clerk. I e-mails 2 times, the second time one answered and said he would get them to me the next morning. nothing. I finally send a text (to two people) finally got answers and called me back. The last guy I had to call two days later to get the info.
I have learned I can send a million e-mails and they won't really respond.
If you really need to talk to the bishop, just make an appointment. You could even try to grab him on sunday and see if you can meet sometime then. He might not know all the answers right then, tell him lets me another appointment in two weeks.

You are looking for answers. As much as its nice that we are all in front of screen. The Bishop is there to help you. Really the Bishiop is there to stand in for Christ in helping you. Thats why we have Church Leaders! Not to make us feel bad, and beat ourselves up, but to give us hope and to help us get back on path back to our Heavenly Father.
You do realize that fear you are feeling is part of Satan's trick. If he can keep you running away, so to speak, you can never fully get closer to God! Even more, if Satan can keep you from moving forward (if that does include a mission) he probably thinks he already won.

What do Mormons Believe Part 1
I record the news and watch it later. Saw they did this story.
Over all it was actually pretty good. Maybe it just sounds weird when somebody else explains things about the church.
I'm actually more excited for part 2 that is on Aug 23. It sounds like the reporter goes through the Brigham City Temple. (I don't think he took any pictures)
I also heard that something was going to be on Rock Center With Brian Williams.

I read your post yesterday on my tablet. Really didn't comment, but then I have been thinking about.
Prayer is something that should just be a habit now. You should just pray because you should pray. Not all prayers are going to be great and maybe even worth while. But you should always pray even if it is just for the spirit to help you want to pray.
Scripture study is a different thing. After coming back from my mission (Long time ago now) it was hard to really study the scriptures and try to find something new. Mostly because I knew most of the stories by heart.
So there are ways to solve this.
1. Study by subject-- Find subjects that you don't know much about. use the Bible Dictionary, Topical Guide. And just start studying things. I find it pretty amazing to see how the gospel is all linked together. (study New and Everlasting Covenant)
2. Read your favorite chapter. Sometimes reading about wars isn't always worth while. Just find a chapter you like. You can read 2 Nephi 4. You can read Alma 30. I have chapters that I know of. Sometimes depending on the mood I just pick some other chapter to read. It might even be something somebody brought up at a talk at church that I didn't know about.
3. Find a book. You should always read the scriptures! But there are plenty of LDS (Doctrinal) Books out there to help you learn and grow. My problem is I tend to like to read books more then the scriptures. Something like that. I have to find a balance. If you ever need ideas, seems like somebody on lds.net about ever month asks for book ideas.
Last about Motivation. I am just starting to look at this idea more. Humans have a problem where we can't walk in a straight line when blind folded. You can watch this from NPR.
I heard about this on Mythbusters. But for us in the church the idea is kind of overwhelming to me.
Pretty much the Natural Man can't walk Straight when he is blinded (either by darkness or not looking)
The only way to walk straight is to hold onto something! After learning this idea (that we can't walk straight) Lehi's Dream starts to make more sense.

Why did Joseph Smith say this?

First this took place in May 1844. There are already people conspiring against Joseph Smith in Carthage.
So a Mob breaks up the meeting.
Then on Sunday the 26th (not sure if this is April or May, if it is May, Joseph Smith is going to die almost a month later) Joseph Smith gets up to speak.
Thats is a pretty bold statement. But in context I take this to more mean, that whatever the Mobs does its not going to destroy the church. I think he is pointing out not only all that he did to bring the church to this point, but reminding the saints at how many times have the mobs come up to destroy Joseph Smith. He understands that God works in the still small voice. And that is Satan that wants to parade Joseph Smith around with all this false accusations.
Just reading the chapter heading of 2nd Corinthians chapter 11 says
I think after reading whatever Joseph Smith read from this chapter it would also put this in context.
