Guest User-Removed Posted June 19, 2008 Report Posted June 19, 2008 (edited) I would just add that the church's sending Apostle and members to the Mexican colonies to continue sealing plural marriages only added to the belief by those fundamentalists who believed the Manifesto was a farce. Abraham Cannon, John W. Taylor, and Matthias Cowley were all called upon to seal plural marriages is the Mexican Colonies. The Stake President from my years as a teenager is a grandson of Anson Call who is documented to have taken a wife after the Manifesto with full approval.Sorry, Kosher...This is where you always seem fail to add the disclaimer..."My personal view of LDS History"...I've never found any Church document or history that backs up ...frankly, much of your "view" of Church history. Both Cowley and Taylor believed that the Manifesto only applied to the legal and lawful borders of the USA. As a result, each believed that it was still within Section 132's perimeters to continue CPM in the Colonies. Both Cowley and Taylor "resigned" from the Twelve. Taylor was later excommunicated and Cowley had his PH "suspended" in 1911 and later restored in 1936. Taylor's was restored after he crossed the veil.In both cases, they never claimed that they were "sent"..."called" or any other authority...other than their personal view took them to the Colonies.Now...you're free to "twist and shout" about me and whatever slights you feel you were dealt on other threads by me or others. Here's the reality...I have been nothing but kind and straight forward with you here. I've not called you names, or accused you of any "high crimes and misdemeanors" here.(Even the post where I called you an Apostate in big read letters, I deleted myself...before I got sent to the "Penalty Box" for a week, for using anatomical terms in a off thread about someone else) If you want to recycle old hash from almost two years ago, that is your perogitive, but I can assure you, most here will find it pretty boring.BUT...I will say this: You have a bad habit of when folks either don't take you seriously...or they continue to question you, you simply huff and puff and leave the sandbox.Others here have questioned your "concept" of Church history, I'm not alone in that. The post I'm responding to is an example of what I feel is not your accurate view...or even you're opinion of Church history...it is simply a "Revisionist View" designed to segue with your opinion of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. It kinda reminds me of the old Soviet joke...."How can you tell a Soviet Historian???...He's the one who can predict the past" Edited June 19, 2008 by MyDogSkip Quote

The Church spent the year of 1904 agonizing over whether to discipline Taylor and Cowley or not (this was Taylor and Cowley refused to testify before the Senate Committee). It finished in Oct Conference when both, despite what they had done (obviously at the Church's behest), were sustained in their callings. The pressure to take action against the two, however, continued until Oct 05 when the First Presidency and the Quorum of the Twelve held a series of meetings where no official minutes were kept and letters of resignation from Elders Taylor and Crowley were procured. The letters were not made public and everyone but Reed Smoot considered them a contingency of last resort Quote
