1838 - The Prophet Joseph Smith left early to attend his trial in Daviess county to be held at the Littlefield home instead of the county seat due to threats. The trial did not proceed as the plaintiff did not show up. The trial was reset for the next day at the Raglin home, a known member of the mob, six to eight miles further south. The Prophet then returned to Far West. (History of the Church, 3:72) Also, the Kirtland Camp traveled within three miles east of Terre Haute, Indiana. The group is making good progress towards their new home in Missouri.

1842 - The Prophet Joseph Smith writes a second letter with further instructions regarding baptism for the dead. This letter is recorded in Doctrine and Covenants 128. (History of the Church, 5:148-153)

1857 - Thomas B. Marsh, former president of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles who had left the Church during the Missouri period, speaks to a group of Saints shortly after his return to the Church, apologizing for his previous behavior and asking for the Saints' fellowship.

1888 - Edward Stevenson, Joseph S. Black, and Andrew Jenson, leave Salt Lake City to visit various Church history sites in the Eastern states. This was one of the first Church-sponsored attempts to collect historical information about the Church.

1954 - Elder Harold B. Lee travels to war torn Korea and speaks at a servicemen's conference.

1965 - The United States government designates Nauvoo, Illinois, as a National Historical Landmark.

1980 - Missionaries enter the African nation of Kenya for the first time.
